Wouldn’t replacing white managers with minorities and also mandating non vaccinated from driving reduce deaths?

“Mayor Pete,” failed mayor of a small Midwestern city, who was elevated to his current position precisely and only due to his status as a homosexual is certainly richly deserving of ridicule.

However, what he is proposing is extremely dangerous, as it amounts to total government control of personal transportation. You don’t get to “zero deaths” without “self-driving” vehicles. No more human control of vehicles. This is being facilitated through the implementation of 5G wireless, which will allow for widespread use of “connected vehicles.” Vehicles that will be under the auspices of a central control grid, which I imagine to be the DOT. Since human-controlled vehicles are not compatible with “self-driving” vehicles, they will be banned.

This guy needs to be stopped.

“emphasizes the inevitability of human mistakes and the need for planning to minimize their impacts on everyone who uses roads.”

Sounds like he’s going to push self-driving cars on the masses. No human error, but “Sorry, we can’t let you go there.”

I think a few Red States should help him out by REVOKING the Drivers License of Every Federal Employee in the State, excluding only Customs and Border Patrol and Active Duty Military Personnel, Make it a FELONY with NO BAIL and a 5 year Prison sentence and a $100,000 Fine.

Then Contract with Mexico to House these dissidents in a MEXICAN PRISON

I took one for the team, and read some of the article. The plan seems half baked at best, and somehow conflates a few years of no pedestrian fatalities in one city with no fatalities everywhere. And notice that the "plan" introduces the woke concept of "more vulnerable" road users:

He called the National Roadway Safety Strategy released Thursday a commitment to a goal of no road deaths. While he wouldn’t quantify the chances of reaching that goal this century — an objective that some within his department characterize as impossible — Buttigieg said, “I think we just have to get there.” “There are communities that have gotten to that already,” he said. “And I’m not just talking about Oslo, but a place like Hoboken in the U.S. has seen multiple years with zero deaths.”

The New Jersey city of 60,000 across the Hudson River from Manhattan has a “Vision Zero” plan that gathers data to identify dangers to vulnerable populations. The plan includes strategies to reduce speeding and protect walkers and bikers, among other changes. Hoboken last summer pointed to a three-year stretch of no pedestrian fatalities in the city.

Apparently somebody doesn't understand the difference between zero pedestrian deaths and zero deaths of highway users which includes people driving and riding in cars.

Secretary Buttigieg has the planning skill of the boss in Dilbert. “I think we just have to get there” is one of the more brilliant strategies I have ever read.

Ultimately, the Left wants everyone to use autonomous EVs. So if you want to go to the store, you'll just get a ride on Uber. Imagine you participated on 1/6. Now you are banned in Uber. You can't go anywhere (other than using your public transportation in the city you live in).

And when you use that public transporation be sure to muzzle up, peasant!

Who dreams up these problems and solutions

People who rose through the Democratic party. Sometimes they make really intelligent observations, like realizing that "Almost 95 percent of our Nation’s transportation deaths occur on America’s streets, roads, and highways, and they are on the rise".

Who would have thought that things like canals, horses, buggies, Elon Musk's rocket, and the occasional retired guy driving a golf cart in The Villages would be a much smaller percentage of our transportation system than "streets, roads, and highways"?

You can read the actual DOT study here.

LOL, these so-called 'intellectuals' have no real world skills, just words that make no sense.

But who really cares, we're all going to be drowned/burnt-up/dead from global warming in, what, 9 1/2 years according to the brilliant AOC?

LOL

I was thinking everyone could ride a unicorn. But who would pick up behind them?

A Bill Moyers narrated documentary said in the years just before Henry Ford, all the experts calculated the annual rise in population would mean so many horses would be needed for goods, services and human transportation needs increasing in cities that millions of gallons of horse urine and tons of feces would strangle the cities in filth.

Experts concluded there was no way out of that dark future. It was a settled conclusion.

The article doesn’t say, but other articles on the massive spending bills point to chipping every car so all of American can be London with automatic tickets if a car exceeds mandated speeds between any two points, and of course (the vital point) remote shutoff by government.

You already know the arguments, and the methods, from the virus tyranny.
(Left says):
- If government paid for it, government gets to set all the rules and demand anything it wants without respect to the Constitution or human rights; and
- We will institute this first by bribery (trade in your old car for a... like the ‘cash for clunkers’ scam), then by intimidation, and lastly by raw force.

1. Make cars illegal?

2. Make drivers illegal?

3. Take away roads?

4. Make car makers illegal?

Road deaths? Sounds corny just like he and joe are in the positions they assume.
Highway fatalities have been around since even before the advent of the bright shiny object known as the automobile.
With the aforementioned being said I can tell you without reservation that this country is really really screwed. Given all the problems besetting us , , , this is it?
Nothing but equality posturing and obfuscation.
