A Ukrainian mother-of-three has armed herself with a powerful hunting rifle, vowing to “fight for Kiev” amid fears of a Russian invasion.
“As a mother I do not want my children to inherit Ukraine’s problems, or have these threats passed on to them. It is better that I deal with this now,” Mariana Zhaglo, 52, told the Times of London in her Kiev kitchen, where she posed with the high-caliber weapon.

What did you get per squirrel tail back then?
Ranchers are said to really like them as truck guns for coyotes on their property. Very durable and fast to get in action with fast moving varmints.
I got 35 cents per tail...
Well, that was actually the point of my post. That the gun was not really as powerful as they tried to make it out as being. 🙂
Well, there’s hunting rifles, and hunting RIFLES.
My favorite rifle was the M68. In the Gunner’s seat of an M-60, A1, A3, you could turn to your left and read the data plate on the breech - “Gun, rifled, 105mm, M-68” my favorite rifle for hunting.
Nowadays, they use a 120mm smoothbore. I hear it’s very good, but I’ve never fired a round w/ it.
Oh, the lady in the picture looks to have a suppressor on her rifle. It will make firing from inside a building much more comfortable.
Did you use it for chipmunk hunting???
Sorry, but an AR-15 is not a powerful hunting rifle as rifles go.
Nope - it clearly has .223 stamped in the. And that’s 223/5.56 magazine.
Define “powerful”. Shoot me with a .223 and I die; shoot a Texas hog with a .223 and get ready to run for your life.
Oh…trust me honey…you are one of few who read the articles. It’s an FR tradition.
Now go have a drink and relax. It’s just the internet. No one peed in your corn flakes.
The 3nd Amendment resides in her blood and not on a piece of paper.
I’ll go for the odds and say, AIRSOFT!
The rifle pictured is a Zbroyar Z-15 “Zombie Hunter” chambered in 7.62x39.
It is an overly robust AR-15 variant which to me looks more like an AR-10 due to the large caliber barrel, large magazine, and heavier upper and lower.
Weird that the picture tries to make it look like she’s some civilian.
The picture has that propaganda image that was being pointed out by the Russian Foreign Ministry.
It isn’t a question as to whether they can shoot the weapon. It is a question as to her being way overmatched and are going to die trying to be something she isn’t, the armed protector of the family against possibly a couple of thousand Russian soldiers fully armed. And may get the family killed with her, also.
When she opens up on Russian troops, they will launch a variety weapons into her lap that she can’t even start to combat. So all this talk about taking out the invading enemy with a weapon is nothing more than publicity and puffery.
Being a sniper in WW II, Natalya Kovshova did not defend a position as much as pick off German soldiers and move with the support of her unit. She was not in the front of the battle nor by herself defending a family with kids. And ultimately when she and her spotter were surrounded by Germans and the last two left in the unit, she chose to pop the pin of a grenade killing herself, her spotter and a few German soldiers that were coming at them. And that is exactly what will happen to the Ukraine woman talking about what she intends to do. Did she mention if she contemplated death? That’s what is going to happen if she levels a weapon. And since you might ask the question, a man would be just as dead. Dead people don’t fight for anything.

Sweet, that one shows as W.308
TDF are “citizen soldiers” like the NG — note the “citizen”
