I am sure he is retiring because he knows the GOP will be taking back the Senate later this year. This is the best chance he has of making sure a liberal replaces him before he dies.

Does he hold an opinion on the Texas abortion litigation, on the Harvard use of race in college admissions, in the New York 2nd Amendment case, or in the NYT v. Palin 1st Amendment case that Democrats oppose?
Is he stepping down because he has been told to so as to either cloud the coming loss by the progressives, or so confirmation hearings in the Senate can be used as political campaign contributions via media selective reporting?

According to Shannon Bream, Breyer had NO desire to announce his retirement today, he’s being FORCED OUT because the Dems know that in November the GOP will retake the House/Senate..so this is their only chance to do it..and can you imagine being stuck with Harris for 40+ yrs as Supreme Court Justice..the Dems want her gone anyway but we would be stuck with her for 40+ yrs
