I wish they’d start making 1960s vehicles again.
All this puter crap...
Try to change a heater core on cars and pickups now. Or all the fancy parts in the dash that run the heater and AC.
I would like to see most of todays kids drive a car with three on the tree.
My millennial daughter learned stick with a four on the floor, but she never to my knowledge has had to deal with a three on the tree. I OTOH grew up with them, and to this day I remember the feel of the 2->3 transition, smacking the lever down behind the wheel, dropping the clutch in, and feeling the acceleration of an inline-six with the pedal to the floor. I don't think I ever got to do that on a V8, as the only V8 I drove back then was a Pontiac Bonneville and it had an automatic.
I had a three on the tree in my 1975 GMC pickup.
Worst transmission design in any auto I have ever owned.
First gear ratio was too low.
You could potentially start off in second if you were going down hill.
Third gear was okay.
No fourth.
Horrible engineering. GM
Did some grease monkeyin’ in the late 60s.
Used to swear that cars were built *around* the heater core!
IIRC, there was an Olds (or some other GM) that you had to drill a hole through the FR inner wheel well to access a bolt holding the core to the firewall. We used to call it “sadistic engineering”
