Attorney Gen.-elect Jason Miyares notified about 30 staff members in the office - 17 of them attorneys - that they won't have jobs in his administration.
Miyares, a Republican, will be sworn in on Saturday to replace Democratic Attorney General Mark Herring, whom Miyares defeated in the November election.
Miyares spokeswoman Victoria LaCivita said the 30 staff members were told Friday that Miyares would be moving in a different direction.
"During the campaign, it was made clear that now Attorney General-elect Miyares and Attorney General Herring have very different visions for the office," she said by email for this story. "We are restructuring the office, as every incoming AG has done in the past."
She declined to provide the breakdown of which divisions the attorneys work in, saying it was multiple divisions across the office.
While it's routine for lawyers at the top of the office to be replaced when one political party loses control, the number of lawyers fired surprised the outgoing Herring administration.

Then he could fill it up with a bunch of govt. surplus old wood desks and old wood chairs with no padding. Put them about 4 feet apart. No phones, no faxes, no internet connection and a cell phone jamming system that broadcasts in about a five mile radius.
Then start "assigning" anyone he can't fire to a desk in that warehouse and tell them that's their job from now on, sit at that desk, 8 hrs a day five days a week, no expense account, no per diem, one 30 min lunch break. Get there at your own expense and if you aren't at your desk in 3 days and every day there after you no longer have a job.
Put one legal pad on each desk, one pencil and put one pencil sharpener in the entire place. Tell them to take notes and put the notes in that big paper shredder by the door on your way out at the end of the shift.
He could "hot bunk" the desks like our military has to do from time to time. Three 8 hour shifts, Susie Q gets off at the end of her shift and Ronald B. takes his shift at the same desk and so on.
Frankly, this is where Trump started off unadvisedly.
Many such as Mark Levin we’re urging this. Instead tons of political appointees who could have been fired got to work laboring against the administration they were part of
This is the way you do it!

The eastern part of my state is “red state”.
Interesting because what you describe is pretty much what SBC did to the legion of princely executives at Pacific Bell back around 1999/2000.
Trivia: In 1999 Pacific Bell owned/leased more jets than Southwest Airlines did.
Great; all Rs must start doing this, day one!
True, & there should be a lot of federal land out there.
A passing thought. I hope there was not time to sanitize the records and computers of the fired lie-yers.
YEAH!!!! TRUMP SHOULD HAVE DONE THIS STUFF!!
No kidding. Its what every single Republican needs to do when they get into office. Clean house, day one.
On the top of my head, the way to shake-up the FBI and DOJ is to rotate all senior divisions, (lock, stock and barrel), to the field offices around the country and replace them with agents and lawyers from the field offices. This allows you to put more qualified, loyal agents/lawyers in the decision making slots and removes the “snakes”, (Ohr et. al.).
Also fire or transfer all SAC’s and ASAC’s which changes the politics in the offices.
He should also notify them that his lawyers will review their activities.
Wonder on whose side Pat at Free Lance is.
Typical BS from a mini MSM.
Let’s focus on the poor lawyers losing their jobs. Sob.
