New York (CNN Business)Good news: After rising for months, meat prices are finally falling at the grocery store. Bad news: Many other staples are getting more expensive.

Prices for meat, poultry, fish and eggs fell 0.4% from November to December, according to seasonally adjusted data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Within that category, meats overall dropped 0.9% — with beef and veal down 2%, pork chops 1.1% cheaper and hot dogs falling 1.5%. Not all individual meat items got cheaper, however. Breakfast sausages were up 1.4%, lunch meats got 2.7% more expensive, and chicken prices rose 0.3% in December. And looking over the past year, meats, poultry, fish, and eggs got 12.5% pricier, with beef, veal and bacon up 18.6%.

We went shopping yesterday, a small corn beef brisket $25.00. Chuck $4/pound. Absolutely insane the BS they try to pass off as tooth paste.

Meat cheaper now? Only if you’re catching and eating city pigeons.

“with beef and veal down 2%

with beef, veal and bacon up 18.6%.”

This is downright 1984 level evil. They can’t even keep it straight in a few sentences.

Think they’re feeding us a narrative?

I eat a lot of hamburger because it’s cheap and usually paid 1.99/lb. Can’t find it cheaper than 3.99/lb. I always purchased the 10lb roll and to see 39.99 vs 19.99 now makes me mutter Let’s Go Brandon out loud at the meat counter.

I did hear Chinese restaurants in the US were charging less for bat soup, eel fries and rat filets.

But I think that’s due to competition trends more than inflation easing.

Here, kitty, kitty. Chicken lunch special tomorrow.

Buy a cow from a local farmer and have it processed locally and go in with 1-2 other families to split the cost/meat.

We do this eery year..way cheaper than the store. Cutting out 1-2 different middlemen.
