Imagine: It is September 4, 2035, in Miami and a large Cat. 5 hurricane is offshore headed straight for the city.
Roughly 7 million persons are in the general area where the hurricane will come ashore in 24 hours. The governor orders an evacuation of the Miami–Fort Lauderdale area of Florida. All of the cars start heading north on I-95. All lanes are cleared to head northbound. With Congress and President Cortez having mandated that all cars built after 2030 must be electric (no hybrids), everyone heads north, but now all the people are caught up in a terrible traffic jam.
Electric cars are starting to stall out on I-95 as well as the A1A and the Turnpike as they run out of power. There are simply not enough charging stations to charge the cars, and police monitoring the available chargers are limiting drivers to 15 minutes. Chargers are shutting down as water shorts out the charging heads on the cars. The electric cars are turning off their air-conditioners to preserve their remaining charge.
You are stuck in a traffic jam all night with the storm headed right at you. No battery, no A/C, no windshield-wipers, no GPS. All that you can do is call 911 and hope for help, but they can't because all of the roads are blocked with stalled electric vehicles. The new electric police and EMT vehicles mandated by President Cortez soon are out of juice. The wind is increasing. Then Florida Power and Light turns off the grid as power lines come down.

So blame the humans in government.
It’s just pointless to hate a decent vehicle.
As I said, the “subsidies” will be the heavy taxes they will put on gasoline and ICE vehicles to tip the scales in favor of EVs.
And as I said, the cars are not responsible for that.
You do realize that right?
I just think having everybody forced to drive EVs will be a disaster.
You Early Adopters can enjoy them, knock yourself out.
“I heard on a piece the other day that a guy went to replace the battery in his Tesla. The cost? $17,000.”

He didn't just light it on fire. He blew it TF up.
I’ve enjoyed gadgets my whole life. There’s no way I’d take
a pass on trying out an electric car.
Look at the progress in these cars over the last decade. That
is going to continue.
If you think taxes on gas will continue, as I do, are you also
understanding that it won’t be a year before taxes on miles
driven will be applied to electric vehicles.
While I’d agree some of the taxation is to drive folks out of
ICE cars and trucks, it’s more simply an overreach of the
government entities to take our earnings away for their
pipe dreams.
EVs will be taxed as heavily as ICE cars are in the long
run.
This is also about control. Over the next 15 years, I expect
to see a move toward doing away with driver operated
vehicles.
They hope to take the joy out of vehicle ownership, so we
can all be at the mercy of the collective transportation
system.
“What’s a shill? Oh, you.”
No, just a married for 30 years country boy who owns a farm, restored 20+ cars in my day and get this.... signed up for royalty rights with a natural gas company under our farm
The problem is too many conservatives only read from sites or sources that only pass their strict idealogy litmust test as do most liberals and they remain uniformed and ignornat.
SRS Dig deep into the internet and read up on EV’s from auto technology trade groups and development groups why Ev’s are being promoted...and it ain’t the environment. I said the reason above in a post...hint: minimum labor cost and maximing profits
More than likely due to electric grid collapse when everyone plus their cars in at the same time. It will be called the great plugging hour of January 6 2000 EST 2032. It will of course be blamed on trump and conservatives. Without electricity, no one will hear about it.
My Hyundai battery is list price at 32,000. Luckily I got a free replacement at 25,000 miles because of a recall, and my car has a lifetime warranty on the battery.
I look forward to it. That’ll be a ton of OT for me...
Houston, New Orleans, … shows that you don’t know what really happens.
Can I get stock predictions from you. You appear to wrong on just about everything. I might make it into a newsletter. “SETTER SAYS” Sounds good. Thx in advanced.
“This is ridiculous. We will all be dead by 2035 from Covid.”
As some of my second grade classmates would have said, “Ain’t gon’ be no sech thang.” It is 2035, the East Coast is all underwater from rising seas, there are only a few people left, most have starved or died of heat exhaustion. Don’t you know anything about the history of the future? The few who survive will be in lines waiting for their 937th jab so that the unjabbed don’t transmit the Esmerelda version to the Punjabbed.
But there won’t be any more hurricanes by then because we have solved global warming!
Rita, Katrina, Ida, Irma ….
“You appear to wrong on just about everything.”
What? I post links backing up what I say.
Those of us who have lived most of our lives in Hurricane Alley know the drill. But if all we have by then are electric vehicles, then it doesn’t matter what we know if we have no way to evacuate.
Combine that with self driving cars. Imagine a world where the car tells you that you’ve been eating too much junk and won’t take you to a fast food place. Then it decides that the grocery stores you’ve been going to has you buying too much stuff that’s bad for you. Then it will only take you to Whole Foods or other places that sell only organic. Then it decides...
“More than likely due to electric grid collapse when everyone plus their cars in at the same time”
Are their grid challanges?? Sure. But they will be overcome with time.
Nearly all states produce more power than they make. Washington state sells 25% of it’s yearly production to Canada for instance.
There are 177 natural gas power plants currntly being built. 2 are going up with 80 miles of me in each direction.
Most coal power plants have been give extension to run to 2050.
BTW in the Middle East, soldiers who are stationed in smaller outfits will get an article 15 if their vehicle is less than half full of gas.
