Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) claimed Wednesday the January 6 protest of the 2020 election on Capitol Hill last year was a “violent terrorist attack.”
“We are approaching a solemn anniversary this week. And it is an anniversary of a violent terrorist attack on the Capitol, where we saw the men and women of law enforcement demonstrate incredible courage, incredible bravery, risk their lives for the Capitol,” Cruz said.
The Texas senator discussed the protests in an exchange with Capitol Police Chief Tom Manger during a Senate Rules Committee oversight hearing.
Cruz has defined the violent protests on Capitol Hill as terrorism before.
Just days after the 2021 protests, Cruz said, “We saw a terrorist attack on the United States Capitol. It was despicable. It was an assault on the citadel of democracy.”

It’s not often one gets to watch a politician commit ritualistic seppuku on his own political career. Cruz has done so twice now. He won’t have Trump to drag him across the finish line this time.
I would say Ted Cruz just shot his dream of a Cubanadian Usurpation in the head.
Traitor Ted.
Seems Ted Cruz refused to come on Todd Starnes show this morning to address his comments.
He just lost my vote. Anyone wanting to support egregious lies is not worthy of listening too.
Where all those FR Cruzzers at now? haha
That’s it exactly. This is a very cynical pivot by Cruz. He’s already claimed that, as the “runner up” in 2016, it’s his turn in ‘24. Ted clearly believes that feeding the Dems’ Jan 6 narrative is a way of damaging the main obstacle of his ‘24 campaign, i.e., Donald Trump. What Ted doesn’t quite realize is that his cynicism and opportunism are duly noted by the base, and many of those of us who previously liked him (myself included) are going to revise our opinions of him downward as a result of this stunt.
You and me both, sir. I voted for him in the ‘16 primary. Never again.
Teddy boy is just like the rest of them, he’s in it for himself, whatever gets him ahead in the world is what he’ll do, he only cares about himself, just like so many others in public “service”.
Wasn’t he off in Mexico on vacation again that day? 🤪
Spot on!
Ted Cruz is now campaigning for the Democrats. That’s awful nice of him.
“Ted Cruz just lost whatever chance he had to be president.”
Yup.
Ted Cruz was always an opportunistic jackass; however, now he is proving himself a used ass wipe. He needs to be run out of office on a rail.
“Where all those FR Cruzzers at now? haha”
At the outset of the 2016 GOP primaries (before any votes had been cast) I supported Cruz as a Constitutional constructionist. He was my default candidate because the rest of the field was pabulum much like Jeb Bush was and Bush was the choice of the Uniparty.
When Trump came onto the scene I marveled that the guy had entered the field but questioned his credentials as a Republican because of his ties to the Clintons and the New York City elites who are all Democrats if not socialists.
Trump went on to EARN my support and EARN my vote by breaching topics that ‘polite’ politicians would never touch such as immigration, foreign policy, trade, and etc.
Let me restate that: Donald Trump at no point thought he was entitled to my support and instead he EARNED my support.
And when he stopped in Sacramento to make a speech at the airport I was one of the 50,000+ people who went to see him. I didn’t get in because the crowd was so big even with standing room only OUTSIDE the hangar where he gave the speech. I had to listen to him in my car.
Ted Cruz came off as dull and lackluster against the vibrant and determined leadership that Donald Trump demonstrated. And President Trump further earned my support by keeping his campaign promises which itself was amazing!
Thank you in spite of my typos !
Back in 2016, Cruz was my choice to get the nomination. I was pissed when Trump got the nod. Right up until the night before election day, I was not going to vote at all for the first time since I was able to vote in a presidential election. My wife and I both went and voted for Trump simply because we could not take a chance on Her Thighness becoming POTUS.
When Trump did win, I decided to pay very close attention to what he said as well as what he did. By the end of 2017, I had become a die hard supporter and fan. I remain so, to this day.
Cruz has turned into a magnificent disappointment even before this latest episode and I am going to be very leary of what he may say or do down the line. Term limits are something that we all need to focus on.
Primary his A$$
