Wow. Just saw his “All Madden” show the other day. Great show about his life and stuff. He was there live during the show, just sort of sitting there looking at the screen sort of like the rest of us. He sort of grunted a couple of times but that was all. Made me wonder if something was wrong with him. Looked it up, but I couldn’t find anything reporting any real ongoing medical problems. I thought if there were problems they’re keeping it a secret.
I thought maybe he was depressed. Happens.
I loved that guy along with a lot of others.
a dead super jock is as good for America as a dead super Democrat.
Madden made the 70’s Raider a really fun team to follow.
There was the “Immaculate reception” against the Steelers. Then there was the “Immaculate Deception” against, I think, Miami.
Stabler and crew.
Madden came across like an average guy but he was one quarter away from getting his Masters or PhD in Psychology I think. Anyway, smarter than the average bear, but a regular guy who was nice to others and loved to have fun.
I still use one of his favorite words: “doink!” Funny.
The ‘All Madden’ documentary they ran on FOX on Christmas Day was really good.

I’m sure they’ll run it again in tribute at some point in the near future.
What a guy! I loved how he EXPLAINED football to you. I learned a lot from him, even though I come from a RABID Football Fan Family.
The first pro football game I ever attended was a 1969 AFL game in Oakland. Madden was the Raiders rookie head coach. He was the youngest coach in the league, and his team went 12-1-1.
A lot of fun just like Madden himself.
