The current crop of engines will apparently be Hyundai's final fuel burners.

The electric push is on as manufacturers race to position themselves for an EV future. Many companies have made verbal commitments to going all-electric, but Hyundai could be taking a bold step by ending the development of future internal combustion engines right now.

That's the word in a report from Business Korea. In an article that dropped just before Christmas, the report claims Hyundai Motor Group officially cut its engine development department at the company's Namyang Research Institute south of Seoul. The report also states the automaker's powertrain group was reorganized into an electrification development team, and that a battery development group....

Good luck driving EVs in below zero weather, you’ll see a mass migration from the North to the South as a result.

You really think the grid will handle all of those EVs, and that driving will not be rationed? If you do, I’ve got some swampland in Florida to sell you.

The agenda is not to switch to EVs. The agenda is to switch to zero vehicles.

And cars with a "kill switch".

Countries are banning ICE cars. The major car companies are NOT going to run two different assembly lines. Once they choose to drop engines, the switch will be fast.

Those changes will drive the research towards efficiency in batteries and chargers.

I know that’s not a popular thought on FR. You don’t have to enjoy it…but understand it’s coming. The US doesn’t dictate global auto markets anymore.

Gas cars can have a kill switch just as easy as an EV. It’s all computerized and has been for ages, so don’t think it’s anything new.

They want us to hive up in cities. It is easier for the progs to control the masses like that.

The writing is on the wall. By 2030 or so, EVs will be the standard. Legacy gas cars will still be around, but only until they run out of refueling options.

Good, then we'll have 99 cent/gallon gas. Maybe I'll buy a BIG truck.

You know a lot of these comments could be from 1910, talking about air travel.

The discussion is about an industry in its infancy. It will change and improve over the next 5-10 years. Better tech is already better. Imagine how good it will become in 10 years.

But…I am still waiting for my anti gravity car.

LOL. There is no rapid recharge technological break through on the horizon. They don’t even talk about it much.

But back then there was no such thing as air travel. We already have cars, it’s just changing the kind of car to fit a political agenda and make a lot of money by solving a problem that doesn’t exist.

As these early adopter idiots go full EV, gas should be cheaper and cheaper. I said should, you know the will tax the hell out of gas if given the chance.

Again the question. Just what problem do EVs solve?

re: “Legacy gas cars will still be around, but only until they run out of refueling options.”

An old mechanical fuel-injection Mercedes diesel will run on vegetable oil, veggie oil bought straight off the shelf at Kroger or Meijers ...

re: “Where are you going to get the electricity to charge 50 million EVs?”

The Dunning-Kruger’s now making engineering-planning decisions in the ‘whirled’ will have to answer that question ...
