The current crop of engines will apparently be Hyundai's final fuel burners.
The electric push is on as manufacturers race to position themselves for an EV future. Many companies have made verbal commitments to going all-electric, but Hyundai could be taking a bold step by ending the development of future internal combustion engines right now.
That's the word in a report from Business Korea. In an article that dropped just before Christmas, the report claims Hyundai Motor Group officially cut its engine development department at the company's Namyang Research Institute south of Seoul. The report also states the automaker's powertrain group was reorganized into an electrification development team, and that a battery development group....

So ... what happens to all those 10 year / 100,000 mile warranties for gas powered cars sold in 2029?

Did you ever think about how expensive that would be to implement and maintain on a country-wide basis? And you would still need to greatly enhance the generation capacity that would feed the roads. A reduced capacity in-car battery would only be practical after the road rebuilding program was well underway.
How long are today's roads left to deteriorate before they get a quick skim and resurface only to be dug up within a year or two to get to the rotting pipes below the road?
A complete non-starter (pun intended) in the Northeast.
They are going to need to figure out Tesla's (the man's) secret sauce for his self claimed ability to transmit power wirelessly. But smart people who have looked into it have so far found no "there" there.
What they're talking about is a scaled up version of a wireless charging pad for a phone, so that means huge coils under the road surface, and a similar huge coil under the vehicle. It does work, but it would have to be paid for by vast numbers of printing-press dollars from Uncle Sugar and it would cause endless traffic disruption while the roads are rebuilt.
Note that wireless phone charging always take longer than a direct connection.
What you would see is people slowing down, or even stopping, when they realize that they're getting a charge from the road. Even more traffic congestion would result.
Robert Heinlein suggested a different approach in his 1940 story, The Roads Must Roll".
And even that “solution” to the recharging problem is a non-starter. Who wants to spend an exorbitant amount of money on an EV, only to have to constantly swap the single most expensive part for one of unknown quality and condition?
The EV mania is agenda-driven mass psychosis. Elon Musk has said that converting entirely to EVs would require DOUBLING the capacity of the power grid, and others have estimated that it would have to be TRIPLED. Anyone who seriously believes that a total EV switchover can or will happen in our lifetimes, stand on your head. For one thing, the very same “environmentally conscious” people pushing EVs are the same people who adamantly oppose building more power plants or transmission lines. And no, we’re never going to be able to generate the needed power with windmills and solar panels, not to mention the storage problem. Also, an endless array of essential products are made from gas and petroleum-derived hydrocarbons (including a ton of the parts on that magical Tesla). Eliminating the use of petroleum for fuel will only drive up the cost of all those products manufactured from it.
Anyone with an ounce of common sense knows this whole thing is a fantasy.

People really don’t get it do they? They really think the electrons just come out of the wall. I don’t care how you power your vehicle. Some things are not up for debate. Follow the “Science”. Power is required to create shaft torque to move mass (vehicle).
Power comes from:
- chemical energy released from the fuel in your gas tank
- chemical energy in the coal used to put power on the grid - chemical energy in the various forms of uranium (nuclear) used to put power on the grid
Wind and Solar are a joke. How is that going to work on airplanes?
The bottom line is a SOURCE of energy is still REQUIRED to make POWER. All this EV nonsense is just talk about ENERGY conversion methods.
Right.
Be safe on your daily trip to the convenience store for your smokes and lottery tickets.

From demand. The free market is an amazing thing.
That in optimum driving conditions. That 250 mile limit drops to approx. 160 miles in northern winter climates.
Here in Michigan where snowmobiling is a winter activity in the northern half of the state, I can't see an EV SUV or truck hauling a trailer with 2 sleds the 250 miles north. And if their destination is in the upper peninsula, forget about it.
And here's another thought, if you're heading north for a weekend of sledding and get caught in a snow storm where the traffic is slowed down to say 30 MPH, you're not going to get that 160 miles on a full charge before you have to stop and recharge.
