Democrats are barreling toward a showdown over voting rights and changes to the Senate rules, after months of growing frustration from within the caucus.
The party is under pressure, from both outside groups and lawmakers, to pass federal election legislation as GOP-run state legislatures debate new voting rules and as the start of the 2022 midterm election is fast-approaching.
After watching Senate Republicans block election and voting bills via the filibuster, which requires 60 votes for most legislation to advance, Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) is vowing to bring the fight to a head in January.
“The Senate will consider voting rights legislation, as early as the first week back. … If Senate Republicans continue to abuse the filibuster and prevent the body from considering this bill, the Senate will then consider changes to any rules which prevent us from debating and reaching final conclusion on important legislation,” Schumer wrote in a letter to the caucus.
But forcing a vote could highlight division within the caucus, where both Sens. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) and Kyrsten Sinema (D-Ariz.) support the 60-vote threshold. Democrats need both of them to ultimately vote to change the rules.
“We’ve got to get this done. … We are having a robust conversation,” said Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.), who has publicly and privately pushed his colleagues to be more aggressive in coming up with a plan to pass voting rights legislation.

Only apropo that they should name this evil bill after him.
“We’ve got to get this done. … We are having a robust conversation,” said Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.), who has publicly and privately pushed his colleagues to be more aggressive in coming up with a plan to pass voting rights legislation. “We have only this short window,” he added, “to institute permanent democrat one party rule.”
I can see the ‘RAT fascists wanting to make election victories automatic. Constantly rigging and stealing elections must get pretty old.
Tell me where I can find the filibuster in the Constitution? It's not there, but it is an essential element of the balance of power that encourages compromise, negotiations, and protects the minority. Without it, the Senate just becomes another House of Representatives that will join with the House to destroy the Republic.
Bingo. This is part of the reason why I don’t vote. Conservatives with a few notable exceptions have no representation. Even if I were to vote and even if the gop were to win, they’ll remain stuck on stupid and figure out a way to lose anyway.
The gop is controlled opposition. Their job is not to govern, but to give the appearance of opposition while never doing much to actually, well, oppose the other side.
Can't Montana do better than Tester?

Yeah, take away yet more that can give the Communist Dimocratic Homcrat party more power. More rights going down the drain. Soon they will simply say the US Constitution no longer matters or exists and it has been burned in a satanic ritual in the local Commie Party HQ building.
If Senate Republicans continue to abuse the filibuster
Has anyone seen an article with a calm, simple breakdown of the Dems voting rules changes? I am looking for something to send to MOR/moderate Dems (I know, mostly an oxymoron) who might be pushed to contact their Senators, so it should’t have any screaming anti-Dem, anti Biden rhetoric.
Just the facts on the proposals being anti-Constitutional, open for fraud and abuse, etc...
TIA.
I hope they don’t start screwing around with the filibuster.
rats need to bear in mind any changes they make can be nullified by the reps after they win the midterms.
Same with voting rights.
If it passes there will be Constitutional challenges by the Red States. The problem is that the SCOTUS has shown no interest in the right of all citizen to free and fair elections. Their failure to accept pre-election challenges to unconstitutional State imposed variances, in defiance of State laws, was bad enough. But the “no standing” ruling against the post-election lawsuits by the Red States was much worse. Permitting the Governor or Secretary of State to ignore or vary legislation affects every Stare and every voter, because it diminishes the integrity of the entire election system. My prediction is that Kavanagh and Barrett will join the 4 leftist Justices in delaying any decision on a new Federal law until after the 2022 elections, enabling the Dems to steal enough Senate races to retain the 50-50 split. Had there been fair elections in 2022 the GOP would have won seats in Arizona, Michigan and Georgia (2).
it may not not so much “voter fraud” as it is a “civil rights”issue between states. Those states failing to police their vote disenfranchise the rest of us of our vote
IMHO, the only way this gets the attention of the Supreme Court is when the rest of us start “asking” the corrupt states to leave the Union
Democrats, and their bag of stinking dirty tricks could cause the end of a great nation. We could stick a skunk in their dirty tricks bag as a deterrent, but the Democrats would cut a deal making the Skunk a replacement for the Jackass as mascot.
Mitch will probably try to help them...
Keeping the camel's nose out of the tent.
We don't want the feds involved with the elections. Scroll all the way to the top for more details. The states own this, only the states should ever own this. Forever.
Government is not the solution to the problem. Government is the problem.
I agree with all your points. That said, state level ID’s with a photo of the person. I believe this would shut down a large chunk of voter fraud. If you’re to request a mail in ballot, you must provide a specific identifier along with the mail in ballot.
No one should touch that ballot except a person that is legitimately helping a disabled person or something of that sort. They, the person assisting MUST place their ID identifier on that person’s ballot as well.
This is all so rudimentary.
