White House press secretary Jen Psaki said Sen. Joe Manchin’s (D-W.Va.) opposition to President Biden's social spending package was "a breach of his commitments" calling his reversal on the bill "inexplicable."
“Senator Manchin’s comments this morning on FOX are at odds with his discussions this week with the President, with White House staff, and with his own public utterances,” Psaki said in a statement on Sunday shortly after Manchin told Fox's Brett Baier that he was a "no" on the legislation.

We should also keep in mind that Senate majority leader Chuck Schumer is owned by Wall Street … so there’s no way in hell he’s ever going to leave them hanging even if he has to publicly pretend that he’s more Marxist than AOC.
“We’ll just cut it down to two years versus 10 years. We’ll cut this one to four years versus 10 years or one year versus 10 years.”
“That’s not being genuine as far as I’m concerned with my constituents in West Virginia”
GRAHAM: “To my Democratic colleagues: You have been misrepresenting to the American people the real cost of this bill. CBO scored the bill without gimmicks and it went from $1.75 trillion to almost $5 trillion. It is not paid for. Without gimmicks, it adds $3 trillion to the deficit.” https://youtu.be/3U_KOsz6A1M?t=997
GRAHAM: “[Congressman] Jason [Smith] and myself asked the CBO to score Build Back Better assuming that [certain provisions] with a sunset clause would actually stay in for ten years – which is reality. Ronald Reagan said the closest thing to immortality on earth is a government program. So we all know that these spending programs Democrats are trying to put in Build Back Better, they don’t want them to go away. And if history is any judge, they won’t go away.” https://youtu.be/3U_KOsz6A1M?t=903
On Democrats calling CBO’s analysis “fake”:
GRAHAM: “We didn’t make up the numbers. [CBO] analyzed the bill [without gimmicks]… The White House Spokesperson and Senator Durbin are attacking the CBO because if they can’t successfully pull that off, they’re in trouble.” https://youtu.be/3U_KOsz6A1M?t=737
Think about - Manchin isn’t folding like he has in the past so he MUST be holding out for something BIG - not just a picky point or two in the bill.
My theory is he wants the 2024 Democrat nomination. You can easily see how that would line up just about everyone in the D Party against him, yet he holds the winning card if Biden wants his BBB badly enough.
If you were Manchin and held the power to make or break the President’s biggest agenda item and probably define he presidency, wouldn’t you want something BIG in return?
The dog hates him too
I surprised there aren’t a few votes in the Assistant Democrat party, formally called Republicans.
Exactly. They try for the whole thing then pass pieces of it until the job is complete.
Unlike the republicans. Democrats never give up.
He has been critical of that monstrosity from the beginning. I see nowhere were he has had a reversal of his intention to vote against it. Psaki is a liar and a distorter of the truth to make such statements.
let’s not forget that Manchin is from an energy state on top of everything.
Curious to see what Manchin’s response to this will be.
Correct. They live in bizarro world.
Ha.
Dogs are often good judges of character.
Ok, Jen...show us the signed contract.
Manchin just gave the democrats a fighting chance in 2022 and they don’t even know it. He helped slow down bideninflation.
Well we know how that is. McCain and his nasty Obamacare vote.
