Alternate headline: Will the Washington Post put the Babylon Bee out of business? We have barely moved off square one in the progressive push to eliminate internal-combustion engines (ICEs), and we’re already hearing about the upcoming systemic racism in their proposed replacement. Here’s the headline, which is almost a satire in itself of the old joke about media reporting on the end of the world:
Without access to charging stations, Black and Hispanics communities may be left behind in the era of electric vehicles Get ready for some new and woke vernacular in the EV era. Now we have to worry about “charging deserts”:
Look at any map of charging stations in the United States, and in most of the big cities, what is immediately apparent are big blank spaces coinciding with Black and Latino neighborhoods. Electric vehicle advocates call them charging deserts.
While electric vehicle use is growing rapidly in well-to-do, mostly White communities, minority neighborhoods are being left behind.
Why might charging stations be more prevalent in “well to do” neighborhoods, regardless of ethnic diversity? For one thing, it’s because EVs are more expensive. At the moment, the gap between an average EV and an average traditional car is over $19,000. The Biden administration wants to close that gap by creating more point-of-sale tax credits for EVs, but the up front costs will still be onerous for working- and middle-class Americans regardless of ethnicity.

Minorities will end up mostly buying used EVs that have worn out batteries. The libs will then demand they get free replacement batteries
Personally, an electric/gas powered “hybrid” type car would be just the thing for getting around a large urban area or suburb, or just to make sure you don’t get stranded out of gas on a long trip. As long as you could afford it! And, additionally, afford the many inconvenient or downright life-threatening issues this type of transportation will present if you choose to adopt it.
But to make something like that mandatory, or to leverage the market to forcing people into accepting it - when the market is saying: “Eh, I’m an electric car. I don’t go very fast, or very far,” (copyright “the Simpsons”) - I’ve got a problem with that.
There are benefits to electric transportation, but when socialism is encouraging it... eh.... And here we are at charging stations for poor neighborhoods.....
Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t some overprivileged fake and unpopular minority character just get awarded with a gajillion dollars for presuming to correct the USA’s transportation injustices?
Where are the mostly white communities in Florida? The wealthiest neighborhoods in Orlando all have rich professional athletes and most aren’t white.
Or gas.🙄
I thought it was called Build Back Badly.
Do you pay before you charge your car?
Racial inequity is right. The poor neighborhoods will have the gas vehicles Theirs will be the reliable cars
There are a lot of false myths about electric cars. One, is that range will prevent people from using them. Not true in urban areas, where people might only drive ten miles a day. Two, is that poor people are disadvantaged by not having a nearby charge station; most of these poor are in rental housing like apartments where there is no way to charge an electric vehicle, so they wouldn't buy one in the first place. The poor are simply going to buy an ICE vehicle.
If you're going on a far-away vacation, most likely you're going to fly and then rent a car at your destination. You use Uber, or a taxi, or have a neighbor or relative drive you to the airport while your vehicle stays home.
I have yet to do so. Only have 120v outlets. However, no problem charging my EV in my garage once every couple weeks from 120v trickle charging, for the last two years. Only use the car for 10 to 20 mile trips daily around the town. Have rarely used public chargers, preferring to charge at home. For rare trips over 200 miles away, I have an ICE vehicle but prefer to fly and then rent.
I’ve got a fairly new house. There are many things we can’t run simultaneously. microwave and dishwasher. Upstairs mini-fridge and anything in the bathroom across the hall.
It sounds like there may be a curable issue there—maybe some electricians around here could offer some words of wisdom.
When we moved into our current house we hired an electrician to do a full review of everything to see if any upgrades were needed or would be helpful. He was good—suggested a few minor upgrades which we made.
Not if you're a pure blood.
Do you pay before you charge your car?
Of course not. Its ‘jacked’ as in hijacked. Power your car, your apt, your apt building, your gang hangouts, what’s the difference? You want money? You gotta pay for protection of your charger or bad things might happen to your investment, you know what I’m saying, bro?
What does that mean? Anyway, a daughter is fearful of flying during the pandemic. So she and her family have driven from Iowa to California and back via their SUV. Another daughter drives back and forth between Texas and California. As for me, I don't like driving more than 1000 miles away in a car (although I've done it in the past).
Pure bloods haven’t received mRNA “vaccines”.
Now I understand, thanks regards “pure bloods”. Wife and I haven’t flown anywhere in last couple years. Unusual for us, as we normally fly across country several times each year. But we’re unvaccinated, so flying is a no-go for us.
