Jury nullification has a long history and a proper role.

Properly used, nullification can be used to overturn unjust laws, because the jury decides that violation of that law should not be regarded as a crime deserving punishment.

In this case, those jurors declared that a black man murdering a white woman should not be punished. The white community needs to take note of what lives among them.

When two Black jurors accused her of not caring about the race of the defendant, she said she was tempted to show pictures of her dark-skinned mother and brother.

And kudos to the forewoman for doing the right thing. I cannot imagine how much hate she must have received from the eleven others when they returned to the jury room after she told the court that it was not her verdict. She had the right perspective. Justice was more important than making friends. Shame on the racists on the jury.
