As The Salvation Army launches its Red Kettle Campaign this holiday season, some of its long-time donors are withdrawing their support from the 156-year old charitable organization citing its newly embraced "woke" ideology as the reason.
Of great concern to loyal supporters and faithful Salvationists is the initiative dubbed "Let's Talk About Racism." In a nutshell, its curriculum outlines the Christian church's alleged racial collusion and provides action steps to analyze and combat racism through an "anti-racist" lens while incorporating Critical Race Theory.
Definitions of institutional and systemic racism are included while real or perceived differences in life outcomes ("inequities") are attributable not to individual effort and other circumstances, but to discrimination. Sections address topics including police brutality, health care and Black unemployment linking such topics to "racial inequity."
That's troublesome for those who note The Salvation Army has been a leader in confronting racism long before the rest of the country and over five decades before the civil rights movement. And they're asking why then should members of an organization built by the Christian faith to actually assist people of all races in need, be repentant of behavior they never perpetuated?"
In my estimation, CRT is a Trojan horse taking in well-intentioned Christian enterprises that—because they care about justice and oppose oppression—naively promote the most serious threat to biblical Christianity I have seen in 50 years," wrote Christian apologist and radio talk show host Greg Koukl in a Facebook post earlier this month.
Entitled An Open Letter to The Salvation Army, Koukl prefaces the post by informing TSA that he is terminating his monthly donations and directing them to another organization. Koukl is also the founder and president of the Stand to Reason, a non-profit religious organization

I can not wait to find my first bell ringer volunteer and I hope that person is white. I plan to get that person to quit volunteering that instant.
Of course, there is a high probability that person will be woke and will agree that he or she has the original sin of racism.
“Won’t drop anything in their kettles again either.”
You really should drop SOMETHING in their kettles. Not money ... but something. I’ve already made my “donations” to them on Avery business card stock in MS Word.
I have been donating to SA for years. Not. Another. Dime.
That is the only effective way to fight back. And fighting back against this woke BS is now a moral imperative. We can’t wait any longer if we are to save our country.
Well... “leadership” follows the bottom line.
My tithes will now go to Samaritan’s Purse.
PING! to #51.
“My tithes will now go to Samaritan’s Purse.”
We used to be involved until Franklin Graham became an evangelist for vaccines a few months ago. We’re sticking to local things now, i.e., our independent local church that supports missionaries who are extremely vetted.
“That’s how we stop this insanity. Dry up the well and let them die if thirst.”
Doubt if it’ll dry up. Soros and his ilk will pick up the slack, plus more, and announce that the new SA wokeness has been beneficial for the charity.
The note I leave in restaurants, restrooms, etc., says:
Salvation Army wants white donors to offer a “sincere apology” for their racism.
In a Study Guide on Racism, Salvation Army authors explain that all whites are racist, even if they don’t realize it.
Carefully consider which charities you support this year!
My note for the kettles is:
Salvation Army wants white donors to offer a “sincere apology” for their racism.
I used to be a heavy donor to the S.A. I rang bells in ____, TN. I attended their summer camp in upstate N.Y. I am a blonde, blue-eyed, pasty-faced person and I AM NOT A RACIST!!!
You don’t want my Caucasian money. No problem.
How much of an evangelist? Is he simply urging people to take the vaccines, or does he support the mandates?
I don’t know if he supports mandates, but he crossed a line when he strongly implied (perhaps said) that you’re not a good Christian if you don’t get a vax. If you don’t, you’re putting others in danger, and that’s a lie.
You’re right - it’s more a money making operation than a religion - which is why they have to hire people - and it’s why they’re picking up scummy white lineal ‘elite’ guilt trips. It’s ‘fashionable’... which is close to being the exact opposite of ‘spiritual’...
“That’s what the Left wants whites to do because the objective is to destroy the institution itself.”
You know, I brought up their website and could not find a way to contact the leadership. That was the route I pursued and it seems they’ve anticipated criticism and closed all avenues of approach.
The Salvation army is historically efficient with donations. Horrible shame this is.
After this brilliant move they are going to have to be epically efficient with the fewer remaining donations.
Too bad the Salvation Army was one of the few charities that actually helped people particularly in disasters. I witnessed their good works during the catastrophic floods that hit Des Moines, IA in 1993. Their field kitchens just appeared and handed out food to the hundreds of volunteers who were frantically sandbagging a levee. After the water subsided they went door to door in the flooded neighborhoods handing out clean up kits. My wife who was volunteering as a nurse at one of the shelters for the evacuees was amazed as Salvation Army trucks rolled up and unloaded cots and blankets and passed out food. I was a volunteer EMT and was on 24 hour call at our EMS headquarters. Again the Salvation Army and local restaurants saw we had hot food. We never got so much as a state doughnut from the Red Cross who was too busy holding press conferences. Very sad this wonderful organization has now sold out to being woke
Depends on the characteristics of the particular organization you are talking about.
If it is business, the bottom line dominates as it provides the resources for continued operations and is the measure used to gauge leaderships’ performance. The one caveat to this statement is that, because really large enterprises can borrow large amounts of money, they can be unprofitable for long periods before finally failing completely when further credit is finally cut off.
For nonprofits, charities, and government, leadership maybe less concerned/unconcerned with monetary profits and focus with conforming to expected behaviors. They are still subject to the same basic fiscal realities as business. Funds, in the form of donations or budget allocations are required to execute operations, pay staff, etc. Depending on the specifics, such organizations may be more or less vulnerable to outside pressures to change direction.
In the case under discussion, the nexus of woke/CRT advocacy is in the DEI subdivision of the Salvation Army’s HR department. HR operations are mandatory for any organization and must be funded even when donations drop off. Consequently, the DEI subdivision is relatively immune to discontinuation due to general funding losses.
In addition, there is probably a baseline flow of more or less permanent donations to the Salvation Army that ensures continuation of its core operations. This means that, with significant permanent endowments involved, withholding small individual donations (unless they total to a significant percentage) probably will have only a very minor impact on the organization financially.
That is why my first post ended with holding top leadership responsible and accountable for its decisions. The only thing that will impact DEI woke/CRT activities is top leadership deciding that they are no longer a net benefit to the organization. That will be done through negative public relations. A constant and unrelenting campaign of criticism over its woke/CRT advocacy may make top leadership uncomfortable enough to re-examine its commitment to it.
My personal assessment is that leadership will hunker down and weather the blip of criticism presently occurring and then carry on as before. At best, the training materials might be revised slightly to make them less offensive to the general reader. Doing more would be extraordinary. Not impossible, just extraordinary:
Been donating for 40 years. Never again!
Get woke, go broke
I used scrap note paper and a Sharpie.
Please pass on these apologies to those that need them. Hopefully it will provide comfort to those who have suffered crushing racism from my white privilege. pic.twitter.com/wRKT3Om3UP— Bubba Wallace--2021 NASCAR Race-Card Champion (@johnbaskettak) November 27, 2021
