The Waukesha effect: A surge in weaponized vehicles plowing into crowds wreaks havoc on national safety
MSN ^ | 11/23/21 | Dennis Wagner

Weaponizing of vehicles is a practice sometimes used by terrorists abroad. But the wanton attacks have also surged in the United States.

Before a red SUV smashed into parade marchers Sunday in Waukesha, Wisconsin, the driver first plowed through barriers and raced past a police officer at a security post.

As horrible as the incident sounds, the brazenness of the vehicle assault is not altogether unusual.

The incident, which left five dead and at least 40 injured, raises new questions about the best security practices to protect crowds from a proliferating phenomenon known as “vehicle ramming.”

Be aware of your surroundings at all times. America is suffering from a mental illness pandemic.

Yes, and a person if fear of his or her life, with demonstrators smashing the windows and climbing on the vehicle; who then rams through the crowd to escape is a "terrorist"

No one needs these powerful, high-capacity, military-grade, assault vehicles that are capable of crossing state lines?

We need sensible control over these weapons of war.

Enough is enough.

In some of those cases the “mostly peaceful protestors” were rioters illegally blocking streets and creating checkpoints. I know who Reginald Denny is, I’d hit someone to deny that stop too.

That is clearly a very different situation than a known black supremacist plowing through an overwhelmingly white Christmas parade.

Oh, we just need gun control! That will save this problem.

People organizing events in our city often get commercial trucks to block roads. One of them is a popular moving service. So they get some advertising, the event gets an effective roadblock at the end of a closed down street.

^^^^^^

This.

Loss of self-restraint and humility.

Man-as-God

Devastation follows.

MSN (surprise, surprise) conflates escaping a violent mob trying to Reginald Denny a driver with Waukesha attacks.

We also need to go after vehicle ramming terrorist acts from Muslim foreign terrorists.

I vote for police armed with RPGs. They are pretty effective in stopping cars.

Please cite your evidence that stoned drivers are killing more people in your neck of the woods. That’s the second time in a week I have seen you post that same message.

My state was the first to legalize marijuana for recreational use in 2012 almost 10 years ago. We had medical pot for about 10 years before that.

You would think if what you state is factual we would lead the country in impaired driving or deaths from marijuana impaired driving. It has not happened.

I think just by the fact the crap is legal you’re going to find more cases of detectable amounts of the THC in someone’s bloodstream, (law enforcement has also learned THC molecules attach themselves to human fat cells and they stay in a persons system for 3-4 weeks but the THC molecules only impair for a few hours), but there has not been increases in motor vehicle deaths related to stoned drivers, actually the Highway Accident statistics for impaired deaths are trending down. I think much of that has to do with COVID lockdowns.

I’m not trying to argue with you, it may indeed be the case in your neck of the woods, but what you say doesn’t jive with my state’s real world statistics. And if you have ever been around a pot head, I have a few in my family, they don’t speed or take reckless chances like a boozed up driver. However, booze+pot+motor vehicle is a terrible combination.

“...Police Chief Dan Thompson stressed in a news conference that the carnage was not an act of terrorism.”

It must be noted here that Thompson is the same dirtbag who had his officers kneeling down to Black Lies Matter last year during riots in that city.

Now we see the fruits of his efforts to make the police subserviant to the criminals.

American cities will have to start doing what Europeans and Canadians are doing for such festive events: Put up concrete barriers and place police vehicles across roads to protect against “runaway cars and trucks.”

They’ve had a lot of experience with “cars and trucks” attacking and killing innocent people enjoying parades, Christmas festivals and holiday markets.

Funny how we have a very narrow definition of 'terrorism', but have an extremely wide definition of "White supremacy".

What a pant load. MSN is trying to normalize what happened in Waukesha by grouping it with incidents where drivers are held captive by left-wing protestors.

MY 2 current vehicles have a combined mileage of OVER 568,000 miles. (348,000 ++ 220,000)

I owned a Pontiac station wagon that I put over 444,000 miles on in over 32 years.

NONE of the vehicles I have owned have ever “RAMMED INTO” another person or vehicle.

The didnt.wouldnt have to do that.
Simply go to the local sand an gravel company and hire their trucks for a day and park them as roadblocks.

I would bet that most sand and gravel companies would donate the trucks for that time.

Think that a car could ram through a loaded string of dump trucks?

"A Boston Globe survey identified at least 139 incidents where vehicles rammed into crowds of demonstrators since Floyd’s death in May of 2020. Fewer than half resulted in criminal charges."

Probably because most of these "ramming" incidents were simply terrified motorists trying to escape when their cars were surrounded by violent mobs.
