‘It Was Insane’; Dozens Of Looters Ransack Walnut Creek Nordstrom Store-(not looters organized gangs)

WALNUT CREEK (CBS SF) — Dozens of looters swarmed into the Nordstrom store in downtown Walnut Creek Saturday night, terrorizing shoppers, ripping off bag loads of merchandise and ransacking shelves before fleeing in a several vehicles waiting for them on the street.

Walnut Creek Lt. Ryan Hibbs told KPIX 5 that police began receiving calls about the looting at around 9 p.m. He said there were approximately 80 individuals who ran into the store and began looting and smashing shelves.

Video shot at the scene shows the masked looters streaming out of the store, carrying bags and boxes, jumping into the cars.

Dozens of police vehicles also responded to the scene.

Hibbs said officers stopped one vehicle and arrested both suspects — a male and a female — inside. The male was charged with robbery, possession of stolen property, conspiracy to commit burglary and possession of burglary tools. The female was arrested for unlawful possession of a firearm.

Stolen property from the looting and a firearm was recovered from their vehicle.

A third suspect was caught on foot and arrested. He was also charged with robbery, possession of stolen property, conspiracy to commit burglary and possession of burglary tools.

Brett Barrett is one of the managers of P.F. Chang’s restaurant across from the Nordstrom store. He watched as the bedlam unfolded.

“I probably saw 50-80 people in like ski masks with crowbars, a bunch of weapons,” he said. “They were looting the Nordstrom.”

“There was a mob of people,” he continued. “The police were flying in. It was like a scene out of a movie. It was insane.”

Barrett also worried about the safety of the diners in his restaurant. Many crowded around the windows to watch the looters flee.

“I had to start locking the back door. You never know, they could come right in here. It was crazy…All the guests inside were getting concerned. It was a scary scene for a moment.”

Bass Pro customers are not as placid as Nordstrom shoppers.

So they come in to take advantage of policy saying “do not attempt to apprehend or you will be terminated from your employment.”

They know the law’s dollar limit, they get away and go home with stolen property, knowing even the 2-3 out of 100 who are arrested by police will be sent home by a judge within hours.

(When the thugs were juvenile offenders they could quote the laws to the cops about not holding one 24 hours without transfer or release and other details, to the letter. But failed 5th grade twice in school.))

Along with prisoners released for Covid and overcrowding, the crime rate goes way up and citizens are not safe.

Something is wrong with that system.

RE: Bass Pro customers are not as placid as Nordstrom shoppers.

Funny and true.

Where I grew up in Southeastern Michigan, the white flight trend was pronounced and non-black suburbs went on for decades. Dearborn was 100% white under Mayor Orville Hubbard. So was City of East Detroit. Others 99%, I estimate as I grew up.

Oakland Country Executive L. Brooks Patterson famously said “What we need is a wall built along Eight Mile Road (the border of City of Detroit).” He didn’t get one and thousands of Detroit criminals overwhelmed local police at the border, causing more white flight to classier and farther suburbs to be built in Macomb, Oakland and Washtenaw Counties.

“This is happening all over soft on crime California. There are stories like this in the news at least weekly if not more but not usually this big.”

*****

The insurance companies and the high end retailers will see to it that the local authorities put a stop to this in the short term. In the medium to long term, they will close and probably move in to protected members-only areas, the empty high rise office spaces would be good for this. Paying $5,000 a year to access those stores will keep out the hoodlums.

As far as the big box stores, it will continue to happen. The local authorities will support big box retailers with tax breaks and subsidies, for now, to keep them open, but eventually they, too, will close.

At that point it will be order everything online and have it dropped on your porch. You’ll have to be home to get anything, or it will be stolen off your step, and the local authorities won’t lift a finger to stop that.

Strangely, some Nordstrom employees today didn’t show up for work, and completely coincidentally, the anti-theft device removers were also missing. Right?

‘It was insane’ ?

Not really.

It’s the ‘new normal’ your betters have instituted.

I was thinking about Kyle Rittenhouse vs. the Rooftop Koreans.

He was helping guard a property, with a building.

If they had stationed themselves on the roof would they be in less trouble?

You are sadly probably completely correct.

I’ve hinted sometimes on NextDoor in our liberal region, when someone posts their Ring camera of guys breaking into cars down the suburban roads in a long drive-by, and they ask for help, and call police (LOL - whom they hate), that the police won’t do squat because everyone has been taught that property is unimportant. The only way they might pay attention is if someone gets battered, or murdered (happened recently here in fact, big state-wide story that involved murder just 5 minutes from our house). They don’t care about property - because you liberals didn’t care about property and you voted this in.

“I wonder if when it goes so far the system completely breaks down and does not recover?”

Yours is the best, and most important, question concerning this event.

The answer seems to be: no one knows for sure.

Part of our collective future centers on a truth uttered by John Adams: “Our Constitution is designed only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate for any other.”

A spiritual revival is certainly possible. Short of that, it doesn’t look too good. I am starting to lose hope that midnight basketball will solve our problems.

And, just like that, there were no more shopping malls and retail stores in California.

You won't need a crystal ball to see this comng.

I wonder how such a scenario would pan in out in say, some multi-tier urban shopping center such as Westfield in San Francisco (5th & Market)? Harder to get in and get out, thus less attractive for looters.

This is only happening in blue areas as far as I can tell. I don’t care what happens in blue areas any more than what happens on the Congo. We are two America’s and blue is ‘their’ problem.

Speaker of the House Pelosi LIVES in this city and she’s the federal representative.

Actually, she lives in wine country to the north of SF, in a guarded mansion surrounded by acres of defensible land. Same for Newsom (nephew of Pelosi) - they have armed guards and are far removed from the terror experienced by the common folk.

Obviously well-armed and organized - organized by someone. Someone is profiting. It’s not like 80 people happened to be in the store and some of them were carrying guns for the heck of it and they spontaneously decided to shoplifting.

Yeah, what happened at the much-vaunted Fusion Centers - were they too busy tracking parents who might harbor disagreements with the school board? Public safety fail!

First the stores, then the homes. With no law to stop these thugs, the only answer will be the 2nd amendment and the creation of militias.

Seem like nearly identical events in Union Square and Walnut Creek.
