Dear Lord, deliver us!
Is the perp okay?
Looks like this was a case of cops not wanting to take a chance at getting shot. I don’t blame them for not wanting to risk themselves. The family got out before, so there was no urgency to raid the house.
This ought to be a Fifth Amendment takings case, i.e. with just compensation being paid to the homeowner, for the public purpose of getting the bad guy, but IIRC something like this happened about a year ago and the courts ruled that the innocent homeowners in that case were SOL.
In this case I have to ask, what would we expect the police to do? Leave the suspect in possession of the house?
As for the family as renters, not much different than a house fire or tornado. Local relief agencies like Salvation Army or Red Cross will provide for a short stay while they seek replacement rental.
Landlord has just gotten a total loss on his rental house. What is not covered by insurance will go on tax return. Business loss can go back several years so he might recover prior year taxes. If not, the loss carries forward against future profits.
While it may be their home it wasnt their house. The landlord is mentioned in the article.
No pic of the perp in the articles. For the obvious reason. It’s getting to the point where you can predict the race of the criminal by the lack of a picture. .
Minor detail. It was the landlord’s house. And the resident’s belongings.
A little caulk, wood putty and paint...look good as new.
Was he wearing a mask?
Based on the trash pile that is supposed to be her house I’m not seeing much of a loss.
If he hasn’t pulled the trigger yet, he ain’t going to… 😏
I must be living in the past. Don’t they use tear gas anymore? If the cops are wearing body armor, which should protect them substantially in a rush on the house, why didn’t they use that approach? Are the cops all wimps now? What are they paid for, handing out parking tickets only? No wonder the criminals continue to get the upper hand. Go in blasting and finish him off, and save the taxpayers a fortune and do society a favor for once.
This is why I always lock my door even when I am home.
Where’s that robot that goes in and locates the perp?
But the picture they show, seems to be remnants of just a house that had no contents within it, or at best very sparse contents. Especially for a 2 story dwelling.
Someone please try to convince me that the cops don’t enjoy bashing the house down and watching it crumble into pieces for a little adrenaline rush.

Physical structures (ie the home) and “all-peril” and covered unless specifically excluded. Most policies would provide coverage for the home. Contents coverage is “named peril,” so it’s possible the renter’s belongings will not be covered.
