Cruz calls 2021 elections 'enormously consequential,' does not rule out 2024 run

Regaining Republican control of the House and Senate in the 2022 midterm elections is at the top of Sen. Ted Cruz's political agenda. And toward that end, the Texas conservative views Tuesday's elections as "enormously consequential."

"I think the elections in Virginia, the elections in New Jersey, they’re foreshadowing what’s coming next year in 2022," Cruz said in an interview with Fox News on Friday night, ahead of his speech at the Republican Jewish Coalition’s annual leadership meeting in Las Vegas.

Cruz was the runner-up to former President Donald Trump in the rough and tumble 2016 Republican primary and caucus battle, and when asked if he’s ruling out another run, he quickly answered "absolutely not."

"When I ran in ’16, it was the most fun I’ve had in my life," he said. "History shows the runner-up in the Republican Party is almost always the next nominee. We’ll see what President Trump decides to do, but I am going to fight to pull this country back from the abyss because this country’s worth fighting for."

While Cruz was open about a likely second White House run, (Rick) Scott demurred, saying, "My focus is making sure we get a majority" in the midterms.

I love Ted Cruz, but hope he stays in the Senate.

He’s got tent revival skills from his upbringing. Now he applies that to advance himself in the political arena.

I think Cruz may get his chance as the next nominee. You just don’t EVER want to give up a Senate seat.

Cruz is the ONLY candidate I could get excited about.

I had fun too. I nearly splooged myself with fun when he picked Carly Fiorina as VP.

Any one who voted to certify the electoral vote in 2021 will never get my vote for any reason.

Ted simply isn’t likable enough to win POTUS.

I agree, but he's more likeable and better than a lot of people give him credit for.

"Get over yourself" is advice that could go both ways.

I don’t hear him that much, but I still like him.

If there's one thing predictable about the Republican Party, it's "the circular firing squad". Conservatives & populists hate RINOs, because the RINOs would rather let a socialist get elected, than support a conservative. But it's hilarious how many conservatives & populists do exactly the same thing: "I'll never vote for [fill in the blank]!!!" As for Mr. Reagan's "11th Commandment"? Nobody remembers - and few remember that Mr. Reagan won 49 out of 50 States when he ran for reelection.

But don't let me interrupt you folks - keep jerkin' those triggers!

Not true. Conservatives worked hard for Bush I, Dole, Bush II, McCain, Romney and other RINOS. However, EACH AND EVERY TIME, although these RINOS all talked the talk during the campaign, they never failed to betray us after the election was over.

In other words, RINOS constantly misrepresent themselves just to procure our votes. Conservatives have taken this abuse year after year BECAUSE we recognize the alternative is even more bleak for the nation. . .it is Conservatives that have coined the phrase to "hold our nose while we vote for X."

Conservative stand for something and we don't stick our fingers in the air to see which way the wind is blowing. This is why we love Trump so much. But here's the thing, having seen how RINOS capitulated and utterly trashed Trump (and us) over January 6th. . .well, I guess it was the last proverbial straw. . . Yes, we've lost our patience and we're not voting for RINOs EVER AGAIN!

Today, we are hoping to find and promote true patriots who will run and who we can support whole-heartedly. But understand, we no longer trust the election process and are highly suspicious of how our votes are being counted (despite recent good signs that indicate we can still win). Let's pray that it is so. . because, if that hope is dashed, what course remains open to us is to either just stand aside and let the nation experience fully what the Dems will do. . .or to rise up as the Declaration of Independence authorizes us as "our right and duty to throw off such government." Sadly, if we choose the former as the only course left to a national Great Awakening. . .it should be tempered by the knowledge that once freedom is gone, it is nearly impossible to recover.

I reject your comparison of Conservatives with RINOs

Way too early to fall for the MSM setup attempt. Cruz is smarter than that.

My favorite from SC 2016 primary was when Ted the former Canadian got 300 preachers for hire to stop Trump…. Now obviously none were really all that familiar with the ‘weapons’ used..by Gideon and his 300 man army… Cruz got trumped…

I don’t believe Cruz could win in a presidential election. He’s done some good things, but also some terrible things he can’t ever undo. And he’s just not an attractive person or candidate.

He’d have been better on SCOTUS than the three McConnell permitted Trump to nominate.
