A slate of political novices in Douglas County, Colorado, declared victory Tuesday night in a school board race that made national headlines.
Christy Williams, one of four "Kids First" candidates, read off initial results to raucous applause at a supporter appreciation party in Parker, Colorado, in the moments after polls closed.
"I am humbled to my core," Williams told Fox News. "I think there's a lot to look at, but ultimately I hope to give parents the ultimate authority over their children."
Williams was joined by Mike Peterson, Becky Myers and Kaylee Winegar. Together, they hold a lead over the teacher federation-backed CommUnity Matters slate, comprised of incumbent board members Krista Holtzmann and Kevin Leung and newcomers Ruby Martinez and Juli Watkins.
Peterson and Myers led by double-digit percentage points as of late Tuesday night, local time. Williams leds Leung by more than 7,000 votes and Winegar led Holtzmann by more than 8,000 votes.

This is good news but not exactly an upset. Douglas county is one of the few reliably conservative areas left in the Denver metro
The Democrats have to sharpen their fraud skills. The media is totally behind them. Democracy will be their undoing.
Maybe, possibly people are getting woke in the real sense. The problem is will these Republicants deliver?
Angela Jones, a Black Southlake resident and mother of four, said...”Unfortunately, it’s going to take outside forces to make change,” Jones said. “Southlake had opportunities to do it on its own, but the community decided not to do that.”
Quite a threat. Who is she really, and what does she know?
This is good news for people everywhere. The indoctrination of your children starts with the school board and the teachers. The school board has the power to hire and fire teachers and to approve or disapprove of the curriculum taught.
It’s very good news. Just not part of the red wave….
If you have a clue what is being taught. For many districts and school boards, that is a closely guarded secret.
Opening the flood gates requires a school board with a clue, and a majority of folks on the board willing to open them otherwise business as usual.
Add to that the Unaffiliated voters out number the GOP voters.
The majority of households do not have school aged children.
And voter turnout for these off year elections rarely exceeds 30%.
We had to work our butts off to inform voters and were fortunate enough to have some much needed local financial backing.
I was in attendance at this gathering in Parker.
This is my county and, except for one, most of the school board candidates put forth conservative policy ideas or intentions. It took some research to figure out who might have been faking it.
Colorado Ping ( Let me know if you wish to be added or removed from the list.)
Good news
This is great news. The people got fed up with a school board and showed them the door. Needs to happen everywhere. Glad to see it in my voting district.
I voted for all three of them. I was a bit worried that our votes might be discarded, after the crap the demonrats pulled in 2020.
Whoops. I thought we were talking about Mesa County. Sorry.
Mine as well. I was very glad to see it
Yes, unfortunately we in Denver are still firmly under the bootheel of the union. Our many years of having a reform consensus are over. My kids are grown up, but future generations will suffer.
You are all to be commended for your great work.
Thanks for the good news ping, george.
It saddens me to see how our once conservative state has become a liberal lala land
