Thousands of Australians with unpaid fines for breaking Covid rules have their homes seized, bank accounts raided and licences cancelled as government chases $5.2million

Queenslanders who received fines for breaking Covid-19 rules risk having their homes seized and bank accounts frozen in a government crackdown to collect $5.2 million in repayments.

The State Penalties Enforcement Register is expected to collect 3,046 unpaid fines from the pandemic on behalf of Queensland Health.

More than 2,755 fines were from individuals and businesses accused of breaking Covid-19 restrictions and the rest either still under investigation or pending payment.

About 56.4 per cent of fines have already been paid in full or are being paid off on a payment plan.

SPER said enforcement for people who failed to pay their fines 'may include garnishing bank accounts or wages, registering charges over property, or suspending driver licences', according to the Brisbane Times.

The drastic measures would be used to collect 18.4 per cent of outstanding fines, worth a total of $1 million.

Queensland Health also called on SPER to recover more than 2,045 overdue hotel quarantine bills which have racked up a state debt of $5.7 million.

'Queenslanders rightly expect travellers will pay for their hotel quarantine stays and not leave taxpayers to foot the bill,' Queensland Health said.

The commission debt collectors will make from recovering the unpaid fines is not yet known.

Before Queensland required upfront payment for hotel quarantine stays, 44,350 invoices were issued by October 8 with 10.8 per cent of bills outstanding.

Those unable to foot the bill can apply for a waiver but others will be referred to debt collectors.

Amazing how you are so consistently wrong about things. Australia is standing up much more to China than Biden and the USA government puppets of China and, if anything, the USA is controlled by China with all the dirt they have on the Bidens.

Yes, this is how it works. Eventually, you will own nothing, but don’t believe the Commie promise that you will be happy.

The real Crocodile Dundee ( Rod Ansell ) died in a police shootout. Sad to say it was drug related.

“The fines are unjust, but few will start a shooting war over it.”

Agree, there are some here who think people will start a revolution over a parking ticket. We just had an election stolen resulting in this country being put into a death spiral, how many shots have been fired in response?

What, you mean bragging about how many guns you have isn't a "revolution"?

Voluntarily gave up a lot of their guns in 1996/97...

Must now be licensed to own or purchase a firearm, and must have a reason the state approves of.... and self defense is not a recognized reason.

I wouldn’t hold my breath on a revolution in Australia, they’ve shown the myth of the rugged outback mate is mostly just that.

We can remedy it every 2 and 4 years while it never stops there.

We remedied it in 2020 when we reelected Trump. Only, the remedy didn't work.

How so? I'm realistic.

I'm an older American (not Rambo) who lives in Los Angeles. I still wear masks at the grocery, at the post office, and at other indoor places, because it's required. And they do fine people in L.A.

What should I do? Flaunt the law until I'm fined? Then refuse to pay the fine, and if the cops come to serve a warrant, barricade myself in my condo and shoot any police officer who tries to enter?

I'm surprised naturalman1975 isn’t here defending Aussie fascism.

I won't defend this because this particular story happens to be reasonably true and accurate. The fact that you can't see the difference between legitimate complaints about real things that are actually happening and moronic and dishonest propaganda that is designed to manipulate people like yourself into believing crap that isn't true, says a huge deal about you.

I have never denied the truth. This doesn't mean I have to agree that lies are a good thing or that I shouldn't speak out when people are lying.

Can't you grasp the difference between fact and fantasy? Is that your problem?

It isn't defending fascism to tell the truth about what is really happening.

I’m an older American (not Rambo) who lives in Los Angeles.

I’m 73. And I live in Texas, as did some of my ancestors since the Republic of Texas.

My family has owned and operated farms in this country since then.

I’ve been to California. I worked for a 100 year+ company for many years who was based in the Panhandle of Texas and covered 5 states. At 85 years the company sold due to issues with capital gains tax changes and elderly owners who’s children had no interest in continuing the business. The company survived the transition (capital structure issues), but 10 years later bought a similar company in CA. For 20 years after that the CA branch lost more money than the Texas branch made and as a result the company went bankrupt.

The year before the company folded the Texas branch of the company made 1 million bottom line. Poof, both are gone. (The owner of the company bought into the “greenie lie” and moved to CA, he was having his young children taught Mandarin Chinese. The year before the company folded, he bought $1 million dollars of intellectual property, nothing physical. Just trademarks and such.)

I cannot see how companies can survive in the business and regulatory environment of CA.

You have my sympathy.

I live among freedom lovers in Texas. I traveled for a living for 40 year, West and Midwest. Almost all of our customers were privately owned. I have no interest in leaving Texas again. (I did live in NM and OK at various points in life)

Evil people are running California. I could never live there. I know there are many good people who still live there. Had family members who lived in Whittier. They were staunch Republicans, they are all gone now.
