Terry McAuliffe is misreading what matters to Virginia voters

If voters here back Youngkin, it won't be because they woke up and decided that they love Republicans again. It will be because the Democrats have pissed them off. Most of their answers will begin in 2020, when their children were quarantined at home at the onset of the pandemic and they realized the amount of control and power school boards have over what their children learn.

To win, McAuliffe has to change the dynamic. He's got two ways to do it. One requires introducing something that is truly disqualifying for Youngkin. That hasn't worked, and so the other is to associate Youngkin with Trump, which also isn't working. Most voters' concerns in this election have literally nothing to do with Trump, and they’d like you to stop asking about him, thank you very much.

Democrats may be in a far worse position than they understand — not only in Virginia, but everywhere. Biden has become the new Trump, and attitudes toward him are the new measurement of dissatisfaction with Washington.

In the last two governor races in Virginia, if you look at the early vote by party — obviously you don't know how anybody voted — you know how many Republicans and how many Democrats have voted during early voting. The Democrats' advantage this year is far behind where it was in the last two gubernatorial election cycles.

So what is Virginia telling us? It might be that a red wave is at least a possibility.

It is possible for Youngkin to win with all the unrest in NOVA about the school boards if people stop being idiots, but it’s a long shot.

Too many VA Republicans want to sit out the election, believing it already to be rigged for McAuliffe. Sadly, if McAuliffe wins, it'll be fair and square. He won't need to cheat when Republicans stay home.

I didn’t, but I get your point. It is important that for many, President Trump was deeply unpopular. The fact that he was so unpopular is due to many reasons. Some hated him for what he said/tweeted. Some were genuinely disappointed by Felonia’s defeat. And of course the media was pretty much against him from the time he announced.

The fact that he was so successful as President made it even worse for those people. The fact that Biden “is becoming the new Trump” in spite of the media downplaying or ignoring his failures should be encouraging. Maybe many are starting to wake up. I hope so.

Republicans just last week, overwhelmingly won a House seat that the Dems have held for decades.

I hope you're right. I live in Virginia. Unfortunately for this election, I am a registered to vote in Florida, where I am officially a resident.

Of course, these little complications never stop Democrats.

However anecdotally, I am seeing Youngkin signs everywhere here in the solid blue Hampton Roads area.

The democrats will print however many ballots are needed in Fairfax Absentee district to pull Terry over the line, there is no hope of revival here.

Because a firebrand like Larry Elder got the top spot on the (R) ticket. California voters didn't want to take a flame thrower to Sacramento, they just wanted someone to run things.

It's a shame San Diego mayor Kevin Faulconer didn't get more traction. Quiet and managerial, he'd have stood a far better chance.
