Messaging app WhatsApp, as well as social media platforms Instagram and Facebook have crashed for users worldwide. The outage started around 11:44 EDT in the United States and continues at this writing.

Texted my son about this and his reply, “Just saw that. Someone internally nuked their DNS records”.

I've been messing with DNS professionally going on 30 years now... actually longer. But anyway, I looked up the NS RRs for facebook.com DNS and queried them DIRECTLY for facebook.com SOAs from four different networks that I have access to, and I'm unable to get a response from any of the four networks.
So I'm not entirely certain what happened to them, but at least at this point, it's safe to say that their DNS is FUBAR. Too bad... couldn't have happened to a nicer bunch of people. :-)

I’m in the .45/70 clubs, some very dark humor clubs, I was corrupted by Laz for those, and private groups where we can let our hair down without too much worry. The bots have gotten pretty bad lately even in those so I’m just waiting for the jail sentence I know is coming.
