BOSTON (AP) — Organizers of the Boston Marathon publicly apologized for running the 125th edition of the planet’s most celebrated footrace on Indigenous Peoples Day.
The Boston Marathon traditionally is held in mid-April on Massachusetts’ unique Patriots Day holiday. In 2020, it was canceled in its traditional format for the first time because of the coronavirus pandemic, and because of a resurgence of COVID-19 cases, it’s being run this year in the autumn rather than the spring.
Next month’s running falls on Indigenous Peoples Day — observed in some places as an alternative to Columbus Day — and that rankled enough people for the BAA in August to issue “sincere apologies to all Indigenous people who have felt unheard or feared the importance of Indigenous Peoples’ Day would be erased.”
Massachusetts does not officially recognize Indigenous Peoples Day, but Newton — which lies on the marathon course — does.

Everyone and their ancestors came from somewhere else. And if we were to make everyone who was not the "original" inhabitants of a region move, perhaps 5 billion people would be immediately displaced.
So it has always been ok to overlook the significance of Patriots Day by holding the marathon on that holiday. But its not ok to allegedly overtake the Columbus, Indigenous People holiday.
If the issue is holidays, this race traditionally happens on a holiday. So why the bitching about having it on a different holiday?
RE: Boston Marathon paying tribute to 2-time Indigenous champion
Why has there only been one American Indian Champ. Are they no longer allowed to run? Why not? Too fast?
Wouldn’t a better way to honor the two time Champ be to allow other Indians to run?
Sometimes I have questions, because I just don’t understand the premise
Columbus Day is Columbus Day, as in the “Columbian Exchange”, among other things!!!!

Without Christophorus Columbus, a Greek from Chios, we would have no tomatoes, potatoes, chocolate, etc.
As for “Indigenous Peoples Day”, it is nothing but woke nonsense, made up by people who are ashamed of their history and culture, and who probably hate Christianity, too!!!!
Hey, I am indigenous. I am a native American, i.e., I was born in the good old USA.
But I will be celebrating Columbus Day.

Tom Longboat... One of the greatest marathon runners of all time. Won the Boston Marathon in 1907.
Does this mean that any people who lived here before it was actually a country and before the revolution are indigenous?
Now Newton is on my s***list for two reasons. One, because of this nonsense. Two, it’s where the hilly part of the course starts, starting with a hill to the firehouse. Not a big hill in normal circumstances but can be a problem after having run 16 miles.
