While Noem has gone to great lengths to market herself as an uncompromising champion of conservative values, Republican lawmakers, activists, and others working in the state tell National Review that they have grown increasingly concerned about the governor’s close relationship to business interests with a long record of advocacy for far-left social policy. These concerns go beyond the controversy over HB 1217.
Sanford Health is ... Noem’s top career campaign funder. Multiple sources in South Dakota politics — including Republican state legislators and a staffer with firsthand experience working in Noem’s office — tell National Review that Sanford has a long history of killing conservative legislation behind the scenes, beyond its recent efforts surrounding transgender athletes in women’s sports.
Sanford sells puberty blockers and performs gender-reassignment surgery.
Sanford clearly has Noem’s ear: While it was not widely reported at the time, Noem herself voiced “concerns” about the proposed ban on puberty blockers for children early last year, citing the principle of limited government.

I received a fund-raising letter from her a couple of days ago. I chuckled as I tore it up and filed it.
I don’t know if Noem is fake or not, but it is unsettling to see how hard she works at being “one of us”.
If they’re a politician then beware.
In the 90’s, I lived in a congressional district represented by David Dreier, who, when in the district, was a rock-ribbed conservative. He said all of the right things.
But his real loyalty was to his chamber of commerce sponsors. The big issue at the time was illegal immigration. He said all of the right things, in the district. In private, and when he voted, he consistently stabbed his voters in the back.
Noem is cut from the same cloth. She can be of use, when she can be of use. Other than that, she’s a grifting liberal, playing at being conservative, and should be treated as such.
She is an establishment, globalist hack.
The EXACT type that Mitch McConnell loves to have and control in the GOP.
She is another Nimrata Haley and should be shunned.
That, or she might be stupid/naive. She trots out all these positions about "rights" and how she shouldn't stop businesses from acting a certain way. Well, we are way past that now. Its a new world. So she could just be stupid/naive. But I doubt that.
So I'm sticking with corporatist.
What a shame. Another freakin’ RINO. The last thing the world or the country needs.
Next time, fill the prepaid envelope full of junk and mail it back. I find that more satisfying because the staff sees your negative response to their request.
I’m not a big fan of hers, but opposing government bans is consistent with conservative principles. It’s when you start picking and choosing which ban is ok, that your “principles” become suspect.
I don’t listen in often, but I was on the road and listening to ‘Buck & Travis’ or whoever those guys are that now fill Rush’s time slot.
Gov. Noem was on and they were totally ganging up on her and trashing her, speaking over her and generally being really, REALLY rude to her. I was kind of surprised.
If the info here is true, I get it, now.
I think Nate Hockman is probably a sexist, since he seems to only question the bone fides of conservative women.
Assuming National Review, in this poorly written article, has it’s facts straight, my long time suspicions about Noem are confirmed.
As a National Candidate, she’s toast. I wouldn’t donate a nickel to her as all I can see is that MALE wrestler laying on the boxing ring mat (in recent weeks) with his powerful legs wrapped around some poor female wrestler. She didn’t have a chance and that is what Noem has condemned other female competitors to in her state............which is unforgivable.
I agree she’s sold out on things like the NCAA threats, but National Review doesn’t really have the standing to make the case against sellouts.
“Next time, fill the prepaid envelope full of junk and mail it back.” I have been doing that for many years. They only have to pay the postage if you send it back. If you don’t put anything in it with your address or name on it, they will not know who sent it. I have been told (don’t know if it is true) that if you glue the envelope to a brick, it costs them a lot more.
The “controversy” over 1217 was that it would not have survived a legal challenge in SD courts.
The administrative actions she took as Governor, and the suggestions she made for the Legislature to fix their crappy bill, are still in place.
Taxes. Property rights. Gun rights. Limiting government.
Noem is solid on all of these conservative PRINCIPLES.
But, keep on basing your opinions on innuendo and ephemeral “guilt by association”. After all, that is how we’re gonna beat the Left... Right?
Hey, takes one to know one. ;-)
It’s MMA, and the choke is BJJ. (Just for clarification)
That is the fruit of women voting. It’s the logical extension of their being fine with faggotry, and the false narrative that women are equal.
“We’re pissed and we don’t like her getting money from questionable sources. A fund raising letter? Screw that... I’m not giving her money.”
And we wonder why we keep losing elections.
