American Airlines Turns Plane Around, Kicks Two-Year-Old Off Flight For Not Wearing Mask During Asthma Attack
National File ^ | 9/14/2022 | JACK HADFIELD

Posted on 09/14/2021 2:06:35 PM PDT by Mount Athos

American Airlines turned around a flight and kicked off a two-year-old asthmatic boy and his mother and grandmother, because the child could not wear a face mask properly when he had an asthma attack. Amanda Pendarvis, her two-year-old son Waylon, and her mother, were allegedly kicked off AA Flight 1284 on Monday, because Waylon, who has asthma, was having an attack and could not maintain the mask on his face properly as a result. Pendarvis described it on Instagram as the “most humiliating/traumatizing experience,” because of the actions of the flight attendant, who she named as Carl and described as “truly evil [and] power tripping.”

In upsetting footage posted to Instagram by Pendarvis, her son can be seen crying and not wanting to wear the mask due to his inability to breathe. Despite allegedly showing the American Airlines attendant his negative COVID test, and informing him that he has asthma, the flight attendant “did not care” that Waylon was “literally hyperventilating.” As a result, the plane was turned around and the family were escorted off by police officers. “I was not refusing a mask, nor did I even say I wouldn’t try to keep a mask on my son,” Pendarvis confirmed.

Despite the flight attendant announcing the incident to the whole plane, describing her son as a “non-compliant traveler,” the majority of passengers did not speak up about what was happening, she added. “There was one man behind us who was standing up to [the flight attendant] telling him how [insane and irrational] he was being,” Pendarvis wrote, adding that several other passengers mouthed “I am sorry.” (READ MORE: American Airlines Promises ‘Investigation’ After Flight Attendant Bullies Elderly Woman To Tears For Briefly Lowering Mask)

The story gained greater attention when Twitter user Tiger Lily tweeted screenshots of what Pendarvis posted on Instagram. “The only thing that covid has done to society is remove people of their compassion,” she wrote. “Hospitals making mothers give birth alone, children being taken, babies being kicked off flights, families turning against each other. I won’t make nice with these people. Not anymore.” Responses to the tweet were mostly of shock and anger, including many calls for Pendarvis to sue American Airlines.

American Airlines replied to Tiger Lily in a tweet, confirming that they had “reached out” to Pendarvis asking for more information. National File reached out to American Airlines for a statement on the incident, and whether the actions of the flight attendant were acceptable and in line with their company policies, despite the result being the punishment of a family because of uncontrollable health issues of a minor. After publication, American Airlines issued a response to National File that seemed to confirm the series of events.

This comes just as the Biden administration has doubled the fines for travellers who do not wear a mask on public transport, with first time offenders now liable for fines of up to $500. Exemptions apply for children under 2 and travelers with certain disabilities. While asthma “likely” does not fall under these exemptions, CDC guidelines state that such exemptions only exist because those in question could not remove their mask if breathing became obstructed. It is therefore a possibility that due to the obstruction of breathing from the asthma attack, this incident may have been incorrectly adjudicated by the American Airlines staff.

We fly AA due to long relationship of 25 years or more.

BUT, this is absurd as it gets. Some of the militant flight attendants are just so narcissistic and edgy. Evidently they have never had asthma and cannot breathe. What a shame to treat a child like a terrorist especially when this toddler HAD to have a covid test!!!!!

Ever since September 11, 2001 flying is not fun at all. Americans have to go through more hoops than illegals. Shame on government.

Can confirm. I was based in Boston and had many AA flight attendant roommates.

They were filled with stories of the passengers they hated.

We called AA F/As sky nazis.

" Carl the *** just cost them a shitload of money."

No he didn't. Do you think the parents of this child have the resources to take on the legal dept. of American Airlines?

No they don't.

So many conservatives live in this dreamworld where anyone with a legitimate legal case can sue and win. The reality is very very very few people ever win these cases and of those that do most never see any money in any meaningful time span.

Conservatives really need to wake up on this "pile of money" from lawsuit dreamland.

Well I’ll probably be in the minority here, but I think, from what I read here, the flight crew did the right thing to turn the plane back and take him off the flight. Without knowing what the crew said, if a 2 year old was having difficulty breathing such that he was hyperventilating, it’s not a flight crew’s responsibility to make a medical diagnosis. If he was having asthma to that extent who is to say it would have improved over brief time, or alternatively it could have deteriorated to the point of creating low oxygen level in the child. In fact, asthma is one of the top 10 causes of death in children under 14. And is the third leading cause of hospitalization in those under 15. Imagine if they had taken off, leaving the child maskless, and then his asthma worsens and he dies in flight without medical attention available. Pretty sure that liability would be much worse than deplaning the child and his mother’s inconvenience!

While this incident is nothing but PURE evil, by this airlines and this flight *attendant*, and, I PRAY they can sue the snot out of AA .... THIS is what made my stomach sick....made me even MORE upset....

Despite the flight attendant announcing the incident to the whole plane, describing her son as a “non-compliant traveler,” the majority of passengers did not speak up about what was happening, she added. “There was one man behind us who was standing up to [the flight attendant] telling him how [insane and irrational] he was being,” Pendarvis wrote, adding that several other passengers mouthed “I am sorry.”

That's it?? ONE brave soul to voice opposition to this tyrannical, maniacal *system* we're living under??

When the chips are down, I guess.

Thank you. I get so tired of this “File a lawsuit” crowd of mouthbreathers here. It’s so dismissive and condescending.

Flight attendants are nothing more than SS brown shirts now. They’ve been given the smallest amount of power and have gone absolutely mad.

I noticed flying years ago flying a lot that 1st Class/Biz Class got the “dolled-up” treatment. The rest of us got the dregs with an attitude.

[THUNDEROUS APPLAUSE]

This whole notion, of “Oh, well, just go sue to get your rights back.”

DAMN THAT CRAP TO THE HELL IT CAME FROM!!

We’ve put up with that junk SO LONG that Legislators and Executive powers — at State and Federal levels — are now comfortable making mandates upon the citizens that contravene elemental human rights. They KNOW they are violating human rights, they DON’T CARE that they are violating human rights, they are of the mindset that the AGENDA they pursue SUPERSEDES human rights, so they are making Legislation, and issuing Executive diktat IN DIRECT CONFLICT with human rights; foisting these travesties on their citizens, and saying — mockingly — “There, now YOU go and just TRY to reclaim your lost liberties through the Courts”; themselves believing that this will be too expensive for the citizens to accomplish, that it will take so long that their dicta will survive undiminished in the meanwhile (and so become Law by default), and that — ultimately — the highest courts will rule in favor of these new-minted dictators.

THAT IS THEIR BET! And IF THEY ARE RIGHT, there are no free countries, anymore! And there are no free citizens, anymore!

THIS is the hour! THIS is the DAY to PROVE them WRONG!
For beyond this precipice NO FREEDOM will be held sacrosanct.

When the cobra comes into your house; you do not go to court to get an Order to make it leave; there’s NOBODY would think you sane taking that course of action! No! You get the shotgun and BLAST it into the next world!

Biden has loosed the cobra upon us all.

Yep. I was witness to one of these nasty girly-men stewards.

The man sitting next to me had a small dog. When the dog was in its carrier on the floor, it got nervous and barked. So the man put the tiny dog in his lap and it stopped.

The steward bitchily told him the dog had to be on the floor. The man complied. The dog started barking again, and the passenger put the dog in his lap. Dog stopped.

The flight bitch-boy came by again and said “put it on the floor!”

It went back and forth like this until the steward said he was going to get the captain. The captain came back, and to my delight, said “Put the dog where it won’t bark.”

The swish-attendant was quite upset!

Welcome to FR, Dr Frog.....where we believe in self responsibility and being able to make decisions, for ourselves....and, to determine what is best, for our kids.

For you to even agree with this overreach and action, by AA/AA flight attendant, is quite telling.

Just so I understand your position....you’re saying anyone who has ever, or, ever will have an asthma attack, on an in-flight commercial airline, should cause the plane to turn around and kick off said passenger?

I believe this is the FIRST time I’ve heard of an airline doing this.

Yes....I’d agree with you....that you are DEFINITELY in the minority, Dr Frog.
