A special place in hell, Why the “special relationship” needs to end
The Critic ^ | 9-6-21 | Sebastian Milbank

Such thoughts were on my mind when I witnessed comments made by Biden allies about the so-called “special relationship” last week. In reaction to leaked remarks allegedly made by cabinet members doubting President Joe Biden’s mental acuity in the wake of the Afghan debacle, allies of the President lashed out furiously warning that:

It’s always been his way that if somebody says something really bad to him, or about him, he doesn’t speak to them again. He does bear grudges. Boris Johnson should know that. Quite frankly, it bodes poorly for the relationship with the UK. The special relationship is very much in danger at this point. The president will say publicly that everything is fine, that our ties have never been stronger, but behind the scenes we are at a very dangerous moment. For him [Mr Biden] it’s my way or the highway.

In other words Britain has embarrassed America in public, and (so goes the furious whisper as the hand tightens on the arm) the ex-imperial power is going to catch hell when they get home.

A lot of people were shocked by the statement, which came almost certainly from somebody at least acting on behalf of the President himself. Britain has after all been America’s staunchest ally in the “War on Terror” and supported US foreign policy for decades. Was criticism of the Afghan withdrawal in the House and the Cabinet (criticism little different to what you can see by turning on CNN) really enough to merit the White House threatening to chuck Britain and the “special relationship” out of the window?

Remember, the British Parliament voted to condemn President Biden for his handling of the withdrawl.

They have never done that before--ever.

Now Biden seems to be waring the British that if they continue to criticize him, he will make punish them.

You have plenty of racists in the Biden Administration, and they’d be thrilled if the U.S. relationship with those nasty British colonialists was ruined. Much better to be on better terms with countries like Iran, Pakistan, Sudan, and of course China. Not to mention our new friends running the show in Afghanistan!

For him [Mr Biden] it’s my way or the highway.

Isn't that the "black-and-white thinking" that Liberals are always accusing us of?

So what the author of the article is saying is that Joe Biden isn’t bothered by the Sin of Judgement?

They've been stabbing us in the back for quite a while.

"They" = "Britain" or "the Democratic Party"? Or both?

I was thinking the UK.

But the UniParty in the US has been doing it too. (I do not differentiate between Democrat and GOP; it really is one bunch).

“...chuck Britain and the “special relationship” out of the window?...”

That is Obama’s doctrine all of his life.

The “special relationship” got us involved in the slaughter of WWII, a war that the UK and their evil empire should have lost. Had Kaiser Billy won the war, no Hitler or Stalin.

Only a minority of Americans are of English or Scottish ancestry and Archie Bunker said it the best about perfidious Albion: https://youtu.be/aTZQ8nfDALk

Love the British people. But the British government has spent about two centuries stabbing America in the back, attacking America, and doing anything they can to weaken or exploit us. Most recently in 2016 they drastically interfered in the election with their intelligence agencies.

The special relationship is a one way street.

Sure Biden is destroying our status and relationships around the world, but the Brits can be thankful that President Trump isn’t posting impolite tweets anymore.

Exactly. Britain’s Naval Blockade of Germany ultimately exposed American shipping to U-Boat Warfare, and gave us the Casus Belli to go into the war.

A true neutral would have told Britain to “knock it off” with the blockade of Germany, or else we would refuse to send our ships there.
