The state of Texas could soon feel economic backlash in response to its recently enacted new abortion laws, which are the strictest in the U.S.
The city council of Portland, Oregon, is set to vote Wednesday on whether to ban future travel and trading of goods and services with Texas in protest of the legislation, The Hill reports.
Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler said in a statement last week: “The ban will be in effect until the state of Texas withdraws its unconstitutional ban on abortion or until it is overturned in court.”

How about, “Hey, Georgia, we don’t think your elections are fair. 25% tax on all goods to/from Georgia till you do a forensic audit.”
States and cities leveling fines, penalties, and boycotts against each other could really yield some great results, and it’s a progressive idea!
Texas should determine how much oil, gas natural gas exported to Portland and add a surcharge to cover the lost revenue from the boycott. Oh, wait; that would probably mean Texas would have to pay a refund, since Portland probably doesn’t do any official business with Texas.
It will also be interesting to see the added cost for Portland to re-route travel around DFW airport, since that’s a major hub for American Airlines, the preferred airline for most government travel, and landing and departing there would violate their boycott.
I think it’s just Portland, not Oregon State.
I hope they all have electric cars in Portland. No oil for you Portland. No more Dell computers or TI chips.
I say that Texas should demand that Portlandiacs cannot come into Texas without a sponsor.
Lol…. Ban travel? Yikes. They do not see how overtly dictatorial this sounds . They must really like their abortions.
Yup. The capital of Oregon is Salem, although certain Portlanders appear to believe their city is the capital of the world. Grand city council pronunciamentos don't count for spit outside the city limits. This is as laughable as the Berkeley city council nuclear policy declarations we used to hear before that city became Oakland's anus. Stick to fixing the potholes, kiddies, nobody cares.
“That will show them, by golly.”
Yup. No more Pepto-Bismol donuts.
No roses for you Texas!
I don’t think Oregon needs Texas oil. Or gas. Or diesel.
Most of the natural gas (maybe all?) used in Portland comes from Canada. Williams has a pipeline that transports natural gas along the Interstate 5 freeway corridor. TC Energy has a pipeline that transports natural gas via eastern WA into central Oregon and then south to California. I can’t speak for oil, but I suspect not a lot comes from TX. Having said that, there probably are a lot of petroleum based products that originate in TX that are used in Portland. Just my two cents.
Any entity doing business with Oregon would be wise to get their money up front. The entitlement there grows large and fst.
It shows that prayer works.
Texas shouts with joy!
Who, in their right mind, would want someone from Portland in their space?
GDP, State of Oregon: 250 Million
GDP, State of Texas: 1 BILLION 800 Million
Oh, yeah. THAT’S going to hurt Texas. BIGLY.
*SNORT*
Maybe it is time for the energy producing states to form a consortium and drill, drill, drill and frack, frack, frack and refuse to sell to Oregon or any leftist-run state.
Let the self righteous left freeze in the dark.
If that be the case, it is time for all practicing Christians and Jews to leave.
Attn. Portlandiacs: “Manly footwear” refers to boots.
Not Birkenstocks.
Apples and Assholes-— that would be a good name for a song..
