Congressman Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) has been exonerated and the Department of Justice’s sex trafficking investigation has been shut down as the man who made the false allegations is now behind bars. Florida developer and convicted fraud, Stephen Alford, faced a judge on Tuesday after he was indicted for extortion.
According to a newly unsealed indictment, the 62-year-old spread lies about Gaetz as part of a complex scheme to defraud Gaetz’s father of $25 million.
“Alford is alleged to have been involved in a scheme to obtain money based upon false promises or guarantees he made to the victim that Alford could deliver a presidential pardon for a family member of the victim,” said the Justice Department in a statement.

Sorry OAN but the DOJ investigation of Gaetz has NOT been shut down as a result of this indictment.

I reserved judgement, too. With some of us, it doesn’t help Gaetz that he can be quite a clown and a zany character sometimes.

Not me. I live in the district adjacent to his and I like him. I hope this doesn’t tarnish him to the extent that he might lose his seat. I think he handled himself very well through this episode. The media were definitely cheerleading for him to be indicted, if not convicted.
That could be because Matt Gaetz remains under investigation by the DOJ and will likely be so until his friend and former Seminole County tax collector Joel Greenberg who pled guilty to six federal charges (including solicting a minor for sex) is sentenced.
Wonder if he made an Alford plea?

There were a lot of FR members who were willing to hang Gaetz out to dry without any proof, or even a name of the accuser.
I was pretty ashamed of this attitude. There are too many people out their willing to accuse somebody and too many people willing to believe the accusation without thinking.

Gosh I’m so shocked to hear this after the corporate media swore for months that Gaetz was about to be indicted any second! We all know they are such eminently credible truth tellers.
I did not think he was guilty. But what about the sons of bitches on Free Republic that posted post after post that he was guilty. They did in Roy Moore, but they could not get Matt. I believe that they are Democrats. They should go back to D.U.
It’s good to see Gaetz prevail here, because the unfortunate fact is that lying often works (as proven by the Democrats) especially when the lie seems plausible.
