BS. Setbacks like this are minor and, in the long run, trivial. Only two things that can kill EVs: 1) the government stops subsidizing them and 2) China completely takes over 100% of the global rare earth mineral mining and production.
Whether they work or not really isn't relevant as long as free money is available in abundance.
Batteries made in China? Good grief.
I would have been happy if we halted all “progress” in 1979.
Maybe they’re doing this as some contractual requirement with the crony feds in lieu of bailout money.
Ain’t the first battery fire issue EVs have had
Cigarette lighters are being replaced by fire extinguishers as standard parts.
No worries. The indoctrinated are totally convinced that owning an EV makes them superior in thought and deed, and saves the environment, (environmental concern being just a bonus).
An acquaintance on FB posted that in 7300 miles her Tesla told her she saved 292 gallons of gas, and 339 trees. She was so proud, you could tell she wanted everyone to know that she was smart, and superior. Interestingly, no mention of load on the grid, nor of the environmental impact of lithium batteries.
This is less an electric vehicle problem and more a “GM cars are crap” problem. Buying a car from General Morons means you’ll get the defects and recalls you deserve.
An electric mail truck caught fire down the street from me. It set the road on fire and melted half the vehicle.
Doesn’t the EPA make sure almost every lithium battery is imported from China ? If manuf. is so toxic here, it’s obviously fine over there, another planet you know !
Why would anyone ever buy a GM or any American car for that matter?
I remember when GM made the best cars but that’s 50 years ago.
Ooops.
Recalls cost the mfg and dealers mucho dinero.

Hard to imagine any conservatives here dumb enough to buy an electric car.
Good thing they have not recalled the 2002 Toyota Avalon.
Am I the only one asking how we are going to charge the damn things if everyone is going to be driving one a couple of years? A simple question but no one is asking.
First things first, increase energy production capacity then consider switching everyone over to electric cars. We are certainly not increasing power production. Actually, we are reducing power production or capping it.
Dumb, stupid.
Just had my relatively loud 03 Mach 1 out. Hadn’t driven it for three weeks and was forced to get on it a little bit. An electric car can never sound or feel like that. I am glad I am old and will never drive a silent car.
If you are old enough you can remember the Corvair Monza and slighty younger Freepers may remember the Pontiac Fiero (because Firebird was already taken?).

I drive a Club Car, but only on weekends. It’s fun to drive but you have to make 70-80 stops every trip.
And...?
Afghanistan has the world’s largest deposits of lithium. When the Chinese move in, battery makers will be screwed.
