Who lost Afghanistan? George Bush, not Joe Biden
The Article ^ | 08/16/2021 | Robert Fry

In what might prove to be a defining act of his Presidency, Joe Biden has accepted full responsibility for the US withdrawal from Afghanistan. And, it seems, just about everyone agrees he should. From radical feminists to the British Defence Secretary, there is unanimity that it was lost on Joe’s watch. Howls of feminist outrage characterise the decision as unconscionable, as it betrays 20 years of female emancipation, while Ben Wallace has made clear that Britain is powerless to act alone and the responsibility lies with the President. At one level, this is self-evidently true: Joe Biden has made the formal decision to withdraw residual American forces from Afghanistan. But the country was lost in the summer of 2002, not 2021. What we are witnessing now is no more than the final, largely pre-destined act of an attenuated tragedy.

Anyone else notice that in an article about the invasion/occupation of Afghanistan, neither "Osama bin Laden" nor Al Qaeda is mentioned even once?

Those were the two reasons we invaded Afghanistan -- to defeat AQ and kill/capture OBL. Had we caught OBL at Tora Bora in 2001, then declaring victory and leavingin 2002 might have been our best option. But that didn't happen, and the worst possible result for us would have been to "declare victory" in 2002 -- as this author claims we should have done - only to have OBL pop up out of some hole and start thumbing his nose at us all over again.

Couldn't leave until we got OBL. That happened in 2010, so if you're looking for a time to withdraw, it would have been then.

We lost the war the day our military confiscated and burned Bibles.

The final nail in the coffin was when our embassy in Kabul unfurled the gay PRIDE flag.

Bush couldn’t even get Osama Bin Laden in eight years.

They can say he said anything...but Biden hasn’t said a word about taking full responsibility that I am aware of?
It’s hard to know since he has been on vacation the whole time.

But he could play 18 in under 3 hours.

To have any chance in Afghanistan you would have to take it to the Paks and Iranians as well supplying the resistance. Not feasible unless you are willing to go total war mode and then it would be questionable. Plus, it’s just not worth these people who want to live like 7th century hermits.

This is exactly what people were saying was going to occur on other threads - Trump would be blamed, but also Bush. Neither of whom are currently in power to have made the disastrous decisions that were made by Biden and his administration.

Bush listening to Colin Powell decided to do nation building instead of killing AQ, bin laden and punishing the Taliban and then getting out of this crap hole. The others just continued the same insane policies.

This is also another prime example of the deep state screwing up again. The pentagon, State, NSA, CIA DIA all are looking like inept bubbling fools. Look for Trump to be their scapegoat.

It is mentally impossible for a Democrat to take ownership.

They’ll blame Annette Funicello if they think they can get
away with it.

Yes and that idiot George W. Bush delegated the Pakis to guard the rear escape route from Tora Bora. George W. Bush is the largest dingle berry growing on the Dingle Berry Bush.

But the country was lost in the summer of 2002, not 2021....

I can quibble with some of the articles sub points, but I could never understand the stategery of staying on after the taliban were swept from the field in 2002.

The official line was to prevent al quaeda from regaining their bases, however, I beleive the real reasons for us hanging on for 20 years didn’t have much to do with our natl. security.
