I was thinking Iran, but googled Iran support for Taliban and read some articles last night that said Iran was supporting anti-Taliban resistance movements before the US moved in. And that the Taliban had support from Pakistan and had regrouped in Pakistan.
So I don't know. I think there are elements within Pakistan that supported the Taliban. China, Russia and Iran are all suspects as well, if for no other reason than to jab at the US.
We supported the resistance against Russia when they invaded Afghanistan, so wouldn't be surprised if they were getting some payback on us.
China has already announced they have major engineering and road building projects ready for Afghanistan. So the Chinese is looking to take over through debt. Probably to get their rare earths that we should have mined when we were there.
At least she admits it’s a shit show—something Blinken isn’ admitting.
