The UK government has been talking to the Taliban through an intermediary and a pathway for the hardline Islamist terror group to be recognised as the government of Afghanistan exists, the defence secretary has said, as he defended President Joe Biden’s handling of the withdrawal.
British Defence Secretary Ben Wallace spoke to several UK broadcast networks on Monday morning amid emerging scenes of chaos and violence in Afghanistan and Britain’s re-committal to a group of Air Assault Brigade troops to the country to protect efforts to expatriate both UK passport holders and Afghan interpreters coming to Britain.

That’s exactly how the Brits felt. They were upset that the Poles torpedoed a deal with the Russians because it basically would have meant the Soviets getting eastern Poland.

Generally I favor conspiracy theories, but it is good to keep in mind that when truly incompetent folks are decision-makers, chaos theory kicks in...mistakes compound on each other in lighting fast fashion, and even the best laid plans of puppet-masters get buried in the ashes.
Trump would have gotten us out of there in an orderly fashion in May when the Taliban was still holed up after the winter, but there was no fixing Afghanistan. This was a disaster from the get-go.
Wondering how long before the St Andrew’s Cross is ripped from the UK flag, so as not to annoy their new overlords. Should be about in 1-2 years.

Saw a retired general on the news this morning that said that very thing. Pulling out now was the exact WORST time to do so.
