A writer for the popular teenage girls' magazine Teen Vogue argued this week that young Americans are primed to accept socialist ideology due to capitalism's alleged "lack of regard for human life."
Calla Walsh, a 17-year-old delegate to the Democratic Socialists of America's 2021 National Convention, wrote in the magazine that Gen Z — one of the youngest demographics in the U.S.— "faces a unique set of conditions that make us especially open to ideological radicalization."
"The expansion of the academic industrial complex and the resulting student debt crisis have crushed our socioeconomic mobility," Walsh writes. "Forty-eight percent of workers earning the federal minimum wage or below are 16 to 24 years old — and that wage hasn't increased since I was five years old."
Walsh professes to have "witnessed capitalism's lack of regard for human life firsthand" while working during the COVID-19 pandemic, claiming that by working she was "risking my life to perform labor because the ruling class had decided that dead frontline workers were just the collateral damage of their profit-motivated reopening."
"Looking at the world through the lens of class conflict and historical materialism has made everything I had never been able to explain make sense," she writes, informing readers that "the tools to build interracial, intergenerational working-class power are here" and that the socialist movement should "meaningfully invest in youth activation and the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity we have to mobilize Gen Z."
From what I see, young girls in the US aren’t smart enough to see this for what it is
Is Teen Vogue a non profit org?
Government schools would never do it, but I think we need a three-part Civics class in Junior High School.
1) Socialism/Communism/Marxism - the basic ideas of government solutions to problems. The perceived benefits, and the potential problems. Issues with class politics and pitting one class against another. Picking winners and losers. The history of these attempts over the past 200 years or so.
2) Fascism/ Nazism — the basic ideas of Big Government/Big Business solutions to problems. The perceived benefits, and the potential problems. Issues with tribal politics and pitting one group against another based on religion, language, or ethnic background. Picking winners and losers. The history of these attempts over the past 100 years or so.
3) American system — the basic idea of limited government and an emphasis on personal freedom. The perceived benefits, and the potential problems. Allowing individual responsibility to pick winners and losers. The uniqueness of the American experiment and the benefits and dominance it brought to the world, until it self-destructed.
She is from Cambridge MA.
Ten to one she didn’t write a word of it it was fed to this gullible little idiot by communist “adults” who prey on children, likely pedophiles
I have been hearing strange things about Teen Vogue for years.
July of 2017, Teen Vogue published a tutorial on Anal Sex. A guide for young girls to consider. There was much reader backlash but there was never any clear apology from the editors.
If you think capitalism lacks regard for human life, just wait until full-fledged socialism takes the reins. To the militant socialist, or any other command-and-control regime, human life is the cheapest commodity out there, and will be spent recklessly in the pursuit of the dictates of the ruing oligarchy.
Soylent Green is people.
16-24 year olds make poverty level income? Yeah honey it’s called first jobs. And at 16 what type of front line work was she doing flipping hamburgers and handing them out through the drive up window?
“U.S.— faces a unique set of conditions that make us especially open to ideological radicalization.”
Right, like 17 year old’s really talk like that. At her age, she should be thinking about what to wear on prom night. But instead, everything is about saving the planet.
When I think of socialist countries I think of holding human life in high regard hahah
“capitalism’s lack of regard for human life”. Yep, Mao Zedong and Stalin LOVED people.
I would bet a nickel that millions of teen girls throughout the world would swap places with this teen in a heart beat. She wants marxism, send her there.
If you’re really socialist give the mag away for free..Not every girl in America can afford the price tag.....
I just don’t know what about socialism appeals to me more - the rampant poverty and long lines for basic necessities, or the government oppression.
People in socialist Venezuela loooove eating out of garbage cans
