The U.S. Navy has decommissioned the 2010-built USS Independence (LCS 2), the first Independence variant Littoral Combat Ship.
The Independence, which was designed to have a service life of 25 years, is being retired early along with the USS Freedom (LCS 1), the first Freedom variant LCS commissioned in 2008, due to budget constraints related to updating its systems to match other ships in the class. Freedom is due to be decommissioned later this year.

The name is ironic
Sell it to Cuber. They can make it into a floating museum for tourists from Europe.
I littorally passed out.
Weren’t they built by Lockheed? Maker of the F35 the plane that could not fly.
I wish you had expanded on that. We certainly seem to be decommissioning Independence, in America. I guess the ship would stand out as an irony if we didn’t.
America’s military failed their President, their oath and the American people. I didn’t realize that swearing allegiance to the Swamp counted as honor.
Now, it must fall to the American People to preserve the Constitution and their Freedom.
I keep cars longer than that.
Is that the one that kept breaking down?
Freedom is due to be decommissioned later this year.

I thought it already was decommissioned.
It is considered bad luck to change the name of a ship and since the names of these ships are deemed to be offensive to the goals of the current administration, it was decided to just decommission them...................... Well, that is just my guess as to what really was behind this.
Does Honda make warships ? ;)
Just fewer ships China will have to worry about when they invade Taiwan. /s
I’m glad because this ship kept running over tunas.
Maybe the Navy should contact BassMaster.
F35 couldn’t fly?
I didn’t know you were a fighter pilot.
I still have friends from my Navy days and have visited with most of them during about 8 reunions.
My ship was used to test out a new kind of torpedo that literally broke the ship in half. I've seen the photos but have no idea where it happened.
It doesn't matter where or when you served. If you had a good experience there you wouldn't trade either of your arms or legs for the experience and friends you made.
I hope a litoral ship decommissioned early helped advance the defense of this country in some way. It would sure be nice to know that sailors of the 21st century want to protect this country just as the lads with whom I served.
Dang. It probably had the new car smell still, and was driven only by ‘woke’ Captains to holiday parade venues.
Sarc off
Give it to the Coast Guard and they will run it for another 40 years.
