The plan means five million children will no longer have to live in poverty, according to Columbia University’s Center on Poverty and Social Policy.
The New York Times reports that experts believe the money could “cut child poverty by nearly half, an achievement with no precedent.”
That’s why those parents are dancing. And it is not just poor people. Working-class and middle-class children are getting jiggy with this financial boost.

Why do they need a tax increase, why don’t they just “print” the money as they do for everything else>
If they didn’t get all these freebies, they’d have to resort to stealing to get a bigger tv. Yeah, it is just another way of stealing.
And yet, millions of jobs unfilled.
Inflation going nuts.
Good luck
Bread and Circus while the Chinese are at our door. We are in serious deep crap.
Hey the democrats have permanently solved poverty! Again!
I’m using it to pay property tax. The big increase there was unanticipated just like the checks. In a month or two the checks will be used to purchase kids’ school clothes. I don’t believe in this but am not going to tear up the checks, either.
Can you elaborate on that? That they will not owe it? Or that they will not have to pay for it? Or that it will never be paid?
Dream on how? That is a broad brush with reply.
I thought the tax credit was simply an advance of the credit these same people claim year over year on their yearly taxes
Telling that they call it a tax credit. Doesn’t a person have to pay taxes to receive a credit. In my experience any tax credit I receive my acct deducts from taxes owed. Never got a govt check. Now a govt check is called a tax credit . Orwell knew what he was talking about when he wrote 1985. Control language you control everything.
You’re exactly right. This is the same credit we’ve had for years, only paid in advance monthly payments. If the original annual credit didn’t eliminate poverty (it didn’t) why will smaller monthly amounts do it? Wait until these newly liberated poor people find out they may have to repay thousands from those advance payments when they file their tax returns.
A con game for sure.
If it works so well, why not give away $100,000 per child per year?
To pull off a revenue-neutral scenario to the parents, the goobermint would have had to double the amount of CTC, then they could have skimmed off the new half as monthly payments and made it impact-neutral on the tax return.
But NO! Biden and Nancy only increased the CTC one-third, but they're giving away half in the monthly payments! JACKPOT LOFL!
” This is the same credit we’ve had for years, only paid in advance monthly payments. “
In cases like mine this is an entirely new transfer payment. I have only negligible income and do not file. As I said a few comments back, I don’t think this is a good idea in the greater scheme of things, especially if permanent, but am not going to burn the checks, either.
Why not give them all a cool million and make them all rich?
And get back to work all you childless chumps and chumps who raised your own kids sans government hand outs. Pay your taxes and shut up. I’m going to identify my dogs as human children and try to get in on the game. Why not? There are always “Advocates” at the library teaching poor people how to game the system.
I had once hoped that Combs would take Juan with him ...
The 0bama stash will pay for this benefit
There isn’t one ounce of economics education in any of these fools.
The child tax credit was a DEDUCTION /REDUCTION of TAXES on your tax return.
NOW—Biden is handing them that same money-—EARLY.
Wait until these fool parents find out they have no such credit on April 15, 2022.
The audits will totally overwhelm the IRS.
Mark My Words.
Until increased inflation puts them…and more…right back into poverty. What?
All the economic geniuses like Schumer, Biden (Joe and Hunter), Harris, AOC know that increasing the debt ceiling and printing more money will stop inflation.< /sarcasm >
Now wait a minute. Wasn’t it the twit Pelosi who said that giving them government money would stimulate the economy?
