As an American, I can honestly say THIS is still one of the greatest moments in sports history.

Virtually the entire country came to a standstill. I met Paul Henderson at a sports card show. Unlike most I had him autograph my Bible and he wrote in a favourite verse. He had become a born again Christian. He’s been battling leukaemia since 2009 but still alive.

And yet Canadians remember it as a sobering moment as well … because even though they emerged victorious, it was clear to everyone that the Soviets had caught up to the dominant Canadians at Canada’s own game.
