McCarthy says Pelosi 'has broken this institution' by denying GOP picks for Jan. 6 select committee
Fox News ^ | 7/21/21 | Tyler Olson

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy Wednesday said that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi harmed the House as an institution and undermined the Jan. 6 select committee by choosing not to seat Reps. Jim Jordan and Jim Banks, who McCarthy chose to fill two of the five GOP slots on the committee.

"Speaker Pelosi has taken the unprecedented step of denying the minority party's picks for the Select Committee on Jan. 6. This represents something that has not happened in the House before for a select committee, by the historian," McCarthy, R-Calif., said at a press conference.

"It's an egregious abuse of power. Pelosi has broken this institution. Denying the voice of members who have served in the military – Jim Banks, a Navy veteran who served in Afghanistan," McCarthy continued. "As well as a leader of a standing committee. Jim Jordan isn't ranking of just his first committee, he's done it before."

McCarthy's fiery comments followed a statement he issued in which he said Republicans will completely boycott the select committee if Pelosi did not allow all five of his picks, including Jordan, R-Ohio, and Banks, R-Ind., to be seated.

"Unless Speaker Pelosi reverses course and seats all five Republican nominees, Republicans will not be party to their sham process and will instead pursue our own investigation of the facts," McCarthy said.

The resolution passed by the House creating a select committee to investigate the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol required Pelosi to appoint five members to the committee "after consultation with the minority leader," but it gave her final veto power over the members. That language is often used in relation to select committees and special commissions, but the speaker's veto power is almost never exercised.

“She is mad with the lust for power.”

The left is about power. Period.

The book 1984, Part 3, Chapter 3, O’Brien to Smith:

“...The Party seeks power entirely for its own sake. We are not interested in the good of others; we are interested solely in power. Not wealth or luxury or long life or happiness: only power, pure power. What pure power means you will understand presently.

We are different from all the oligarchies of the past, in that we know what we are doing. All the others, even those who resembled ourselves, were cowards and hypocrites.

The German Nazis and the Russian Communists came very close to us in their methods, but they never had the courage to recognize their own motives. They pretended, perhaps they even believed, that they had seized power unwillingly and for a limited time, and that just round the corner there lay a paradise where human beings would be free and equal.

We are not like that. We know that no one ever seizes power with the intention of relinquishing it. Power is not a means, it is an end. One does not establish a dictatorship in order to safeguard a revolution; one makes the revolution in order to establish the dictatorship.

The object of persecution is persecution. The object of torture is torture. The object of power is power.

Now do you begin to understand me?’ “

The GOP should not even be acknowledging this farce let alone trying to participate in it. They should simply keep reminding the public of this admin’s spending, rising prices of goods across the board, and crime and the continued degradation of society as a whole. And when the partisan committee comes to its inevitable conclusion, the GOP, when asked about it, should provide zero comment and act as if it never occurred. Let the MSM trumpet that.

While I thought it was wrong to appoint any republican to this committee, and thus acknowledge it, it will work out better if McCarthy really does take his team off.

Republicans should have their own “select” committee. Dual, competing committees.

I would like to see in writing exactly how this authority is defined and spelled out. The article says it is rarely used. I would like specifics as to when it was used and by whom.

<P.Liz Cheney supported Pelosi on the removal and criticized McCarthy. Time to remove Cheney from all committee assignments.

“More and more everyday I think Nancy Pelosi is behind everything we’ve gone through in the past year and a half. Everything.”

Very possible. The complete corruption of the CIA, DOJ, and FBI sure helped.
