Salem radio host Larry Elder announced Monday he is entering the recall election in California to replace Gov. Gavin Newsom.
"I’m running for governor because the decline of California isn’t the fault of its people," he said in a press release. "Our government is what’s ruining the Golden State. Our schools are closed to both students and their parents. Our streets aren’t safe from rising violent crime or the disaster of rising homelessness. And the scandals of Sacramento aren’t going to stop on their own. It’s time to tell the truth. We’ve got a state to save."
Elder is under no illusions about the power Democrats hold in the state and the challenge before him, but fellow Salem radio host Dennis Prager and many others encouraged him to throw his hat into the ring.
Elder’s entry into the race immediately reorders a large GOP field that includes former San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer; businessman John Cox, who was defeated by Newsom in 2018; state Assemblyman Kevin Kiley; reality TV personality and former Olympian Caitlyn Jenner; and former U.S. Rep. Doug Ose. He also brings more celebrity sparkle to a race that has lacked a clear front-runner.“I think this is a race between Gavin Newsom and me. I don’t think about the other candidates,” Elder said, arguing that his name recognition, outsider status and communication skills separate him from the crowd. […]
In a recall election, voters will be asked two questions: First, should Newsom be removed? And then, who should replace him? Voters will choose from a list of registered replacement candidates. However, the second votes only count if a majority votes yes on the first question.
Candidates have until July 16 to file papers to declare their candidacy. With dozens of candidates expected, it’s possible that a winner could top the field with as little as 20% or 30% of the vote. Republicans believe Elder’s presence in the race will help drive up support for the critical first question on the ballot. (AP)

California's recall election will take place Sept. 14. Candidates have until July 16 to file paperwork declaring their candidacy.
California is too racist to elect a black.
Also, ever since Reagan they have been too stupid to elect a competent Governor.
I like Larry Elder, given the opportunity, I’d vote for him.
Any conservative, any color, doesn’t stand a snow ball’s chance in hell of winning.
Arnold was a joke.
Do democrats have a veto proof super majority in both California houses?
I would too, if I lived in Kalifornia.
Larry is bright, quick-witted, has a sense of humor, understands California and is a strong Conservative.
Due to the state of affairs in California, he might just pull it off.
Actually, Larry is a libertarian.
He’s got my vote ... and the vote of anyone who will give me just a couple of minutes to explain why I’m voting for him.
Larry Elder is a solid patriot. is talkshow syndicated here in Phoenix and I’ve listen to him quite a bit and he is very intelligent and consistent. He would never freak out like Glenn Beck cheeto-face.
I’m also voting for him. Unless we get some pizazz into this race, we’re doomed on question one. The media is going to try to avoid covering the election as much as possible, and he could provide the breakthrough in getting the voters engaged
I thought that I had posted a comment, earlier. Apparently, I was mistaken. Anyway, I think Larry Elder running for Governor of the State of California is a brilliant idea!
Unfortunately, probably going nowhere fast in this attempt given that it is...California.
Larry Elder is the best choice in the entire field.
I always wondered if he’d run for office.
I’d vote for never-Trumper Caitlin Jenner over Gavin Newsom just to get him out of office and end his political aspirations of higher office (like POTUS). The humiliation factor alone would be worth it.
Electing Elder would make sense. But since nothing Komiefornia has done for the last 40 years has made sense I have little faith that he will be elected. Face it folks, our only move is for free states to secede. Until then all we can do is sit and watch dems cheat their way into office and continue destroying the country. Its a shame Americans won’t get as excited about making government accountable to the people as they do about sitting on a sofa and watching football.
bttt
He would be wonderful in Maryland too.
I wish him well!!!
