Aside from ground beef, the cheapest beef is pushing $7/lb. That’s a huge increase from before covid.

Plenty of TP at Costco.
I recently saw 3 shelves high full plus on the floor another row of pallets. They may know something we don’t...

Stores know a second lock down will be attempted.

It sounds like it.

In that case, it behooves us to prepare as well.

Look into Tattler Reusable Canning Jar Lids.

I have used them and they work great.

If another lock down occurs, expect a further supply chain breakdown,.. and possibly longer lasting.
Many of the long-distance truckers have left the job, and it takes months to train replacements, and have them pass medical exams.
Many trucking companies and manufacturing companies are offering bonuses for new employees, and re-employment bonuses for those that are already trained and licensed.

Anybody with experience in business will know that when prices are rising, that is NOT the time to stockpile.

I love my tatters. I had a bit of a learning curve since they aren’t as idiot-proof as the metal lids. But now I think all of my filled jars have tattlers on them other than the butter. But that wasn’t canned the normal way and I didn’t think the Tattler Lids would work.

I bought a bunch of lids and then even more of the Rings at the same time. Only the Rings will ever need replacing and possibly every 10 uses.

I have continued to prepare diligently since 2008 and more so since 2019. Getting stocked up before prices get sky high.

“Snyder: 5 Specific Reasons Why You Should Stockpile Food Right Now”

Looking forward, there are several factors that are likely to combine to cause food inflation to accelerate even more in the months ahead. The following are 5 specific reasons why you should stockpile food right now…

#1 Supermarkets are feverishly stockpiling food, and the Wall Street Journal is reporting that they are doing this in anticipation of “the highest price increases in recent memory”.

#2 The U.S. government is going to continue recklessly spending money, and the Federal Reserve is going to keep pumping more giant mountains of fresh cash into the financial system.

#3 Gas prices keep surging, and this is making it more expensive to transport food around the country.

#4 The endless “megadrought” in the western states just continues to intensify

#5 On top of everything else, an enormous plague of grasshoppers is now causing massive headaches for farmers in our western states.

The local truck driving training place shut down a few years back. Hear the same had happened around the country.

Speaking of “trains”. Many railway lines have also shut down so that’s another avenue that can’t be up and running quickly.

If another lock down occurs, expect a further supply chain breakdown,.. and possibly longer lasting.

Last fall I noted supermarket chains establishing closer warehouses with identified critical food and supplies. Washington State was leading efforts for a state stockpile.

Just in time shipping has gone from single day to multiple day turn arounds. The trucking industry is suffering from driver shortages. If we have another hit like the lockdown, real food shortages could cause things to go sideways in urban areas very quickly.

Unless they can sell those goods that they just bought for double or triple the price in 3 months.

We’ll be in the fall again by then - waiting for LOCKDOWN 2.

Last week I ran across wide mouth Ball jars, and many boxes of extra lids, at one of our local Meijer. Picked up one case of jars and several boxes of extra lids. I don’t do a ton of canning, but it was nice to see these for when the time is right.

Yeah, I think I might get a dairy goat too sometime. We have meat goats and they don’t have milk to spare.

Thanks for the tip! I can’t go today, but maybe tomorrow I can stop in and get some lids.

You know it is bad that they’re stocking up on “perishables” like frozen meat.

tbw2 :" You know it is bad that they’re stocking up on “perishables” like frozen meat. "

The best way to keep employees in a grocery store is to make sure that there are supplies in reserve/ back stockroom for the employees; product that will never hit the shelves.

The other option comes from the stock market :" Buy low,.. sell high ", especially if they know that a shortage is going to occur.
It will increase the store profit margin, enough hopefully, that the store can remain in business after a re-occurrence of a pandemic.
