Critics slammed The New York Times on Sunday for an article that suggested the American flag has become a symbol of divisiveness.
The New York Times published an article on Saturday titled: 'A Fourth of July Symbol of Unity That May No Longer Unite.'
In the article, Pulitzer Prize finalist Sarah Maslin Nir examined how the American flag 'once a unifying symbol' has become a divisive symbol in the United States along political party lines.

Yes, and about the same time the NYT err NY Slimes were basically bankrupt. The other weird thing about those days wasn’t just how they were propped up and bankrolled, made them seem stronger than ever, invincible some might even dare think. But it was like an old western movie where the storefronts were only that nothing more.
Looking back makes me think there are many shoddy corrupt businesses that will soon be blown away by the truth that is coming.
I have a normal size American Flag I fly every day.
On occasions like the 4th of July, yesterday I have a very large one I fly hanging from my hanger door.
I do so proudly and if if offends any one then they can shove it up their offended wazoo’s.
A house divided cannot stand.
Hubby has walked our subdivision almost daily for five years. He said he’s never seen so many flags as this year — probably five times as many as in prior years.
There is no peaceful coexistence with these people.
How can flying the flag of our country in our own country be divisive? To whom? Our enemies? To those who hate America? To the democRATS?
As patriots and former officers in the Air Force, our Stars and Stripes flies proudly everyday at the entrance to our farm.
We fly it especially for those who hate it.
If you are a practicing demonRAT, you are a communist and hate America, so why wouldn't the Flag be hated?
Why are those hypocritical bastards staying in our great country?
Oh, that answers my question.
Has the NYT become fill blown communist?
I understand how the flag is divisive; I agree with them. When you realize that the population is composed of patriots and those that want end America’s greatness, the symbolic meaning of the flag does cause division betweewn the two groups.
Let it fly as long as we can.
In our California neighborhood right after 9/11, I determined to fly the flag until Osama Bin Laden was caught. I went through 8 flags, that I returned to our local VFW for destroying. I did give up as I figured that he was likely long gone but we weren’t being informed. I still don’t believe that Bammy was the ‘one’ who got him. Our country is being destroyed from within. Khrushchev (wasn’t he the one?) was right.
Another time that Rush Limbaugh was proven right.
I’m sure that according to the NYT, BURNING the flag is patriotic.
Because lefties have been brainwashed into hating it.
This should come as no surprise to anyone with half a brain:
The daughter of psychiatrist Yehuda Nir and psychologist Bonnie Maslin,[2] Nir was born and grew up in Manhattan, attending Brearley School.[3] Her brother, David Nir, is (as of 2014) the political director of Daily Kos.[2] Sarah Maslin Nir graduated from Columbia University in 2008, majoring in political science and philosophy.[
“Sarah Maslin Nir, Another liberal(self-hating) Jew trashing America”
Fixed it!
Fly the Betsy Ross 13-star flag. It really pisses them off!
“Has the NYT become full blown communist”
Nah. The NYT is full of hot air - following the latest fad and catering to its readers on the Upper East Side and Upper West Side, the limousine liberals who enjoy playing Marie Antoinette games, like playing shepherdess.
No. The flag doesn’t divide. The left, headed by the nyt, hates this country and wants it destroyed, then restored in a communist dictatorship.
