BREAKING: Allen West Declares Candidacy For Texas Governor, Will Challenge Abbott For GOP Nomination
National File ^ | July 4 | Tom Pappert

Posted on 07/04/2021 11:05:21 AM PDT by RandFan

Lieutenant Colonel Allen West announced his candidacy to become Governor of Texas this morning in a 7-minute video that detailed his history, celebrated the heroes of the Texas Revolution, and using comparisons to the Alamo, urged Texans to join him on the “right” side of the “line in the stand” with their vote.

“Now it is our time, it is our time to stand up and honor those words of Texas, Our Texas, and to secure the future for our children and our grandchildren, to make sure the growth, the opportunity, and the prosperity, the economic success that you see here in Texas, continues on,” said West, after exploring the Republic of Texas’s rich history of volunteers and politicians who came from other states. West, who was born in Georgia and attended the University of Tennessee noted that over 30 men from Tennessee were among the early leaders of the Republic of Texas, and those who fought at the Alamo.

“That means that we stay energy independent, and we fuel America, so that we’re not dependent on other nations – other nations that are our enemies,” said West. “To make sure that we secure our borders, to make sure that Texas is for Texans.” West added, “We cannot live in a state that is the number one state for human and sex trafficking in the United States of America. That’s not how we protect our children and our legacy.” West then suggested Texas needs modern heroes to match those of the Texas Revolution.

West entering race may split vote(west and abbot) and you get unknown entity like the actor (or other person) who I read are or was considering a run, winning primary.

Abbot let Austin become liberal.....

Would LOVE for West to replace Cornball.

Unfortunately, Corny is one of Midge McConnell’s best henchmen. Midge opens up that treasure chest against any viable opponent, every time Cornholio is up for re-election.

:-(

Interesting. I know of Martel and others from that Frankish era - 700s or so - as a result of my genealogy research. Martel was grandfather of Charlemagne. Martel defeated the muslim invasion of Gaul and what is now France.

Well, this would be historic and I can’t say I think it would be bad.

West is angling to be President in time. He sure is a patient warrior.

He was knocked out because they were afraid of him in Georgia, because he is the real thing.

Hope everyone has heard him on CRT. This is maybe the most important issue right now.

“Allen West has poor campaign skills. He lost a GOP district in 2012 which Brian Mast (R) has been able to hold comfortably since 2016.”

There was redistricking and gerrymandering as I recall.

Colonel West strikes me as less than politically astute.

This move only reconfirms it.

Sometimes you have to take some risks. Moderate Republicans have done precious little to slow down leftist subversion of our institutions. I put Abbott and his predecessors, George W. Bush and Rick Perry, in the moderate category. Frankly, some of the Democratic governors of the 1970s and earlier, such as Dolph Briscoe and Pappy O'Daniel, were more conservative.

Texas needs someone with backbone who won't cave in to the state's liberal media and Federal pressure. Abbott is not that man.

Because of Abbot, I spent 3 days freezing in the dark. F Abbot, I’ll vote for anyone before I vote Abbot.

West could knock off Cornyn and he wouldn’t have to move.

It would be a big win for America.

Unfortunately Cornyn will have another 4 years to go on his term in 2022. I agree Col. West would beat him but while I would vote for him in primary and general it will be difficult to beat Abbott in the primary.

“I consider every Republican incumbent suspect.”

All political candidates should always be suspect.

Suspecting Candidates Matters, heh.

Republicans need to emulate Reagan and campaign using positive themes explaining in simple terms why the Republican will be better for the voter and the voter’s family.

Lord Abbott showed his true blue colors by locking us down and masking us up. DeSantis was the proven conservative leader. Abbott about faced just in time to campaign again.

I knew this was coming. I am for Abbott although I like West. After his move to Texas (to my neighborhood in fact) and his short stay as state chairman, this is too much of an opportunistic move.

Splitting the vote and making Republicans play the usual “if __ is running I’m not going to vote - that’ll show them!” game again will hand it to a Democrat. Why don’t people see that?
