Former NFL quarterback Brett Favre said Tuesday that he doesn’t support transgender New Zealand weightlifter Laurel Hubbard competing in the upcoming Olympic games.
In a recent episode of his podcast “Bolling with Favre” Favre told co-host Eric Bolling that he doesn’t approve of Hubbard competing in the women's event.
"It's a man competing as a woman," Favre told Bolling. "That's unfair. It's not fair for a man, even if this person wants to be a woman or feels compelled — if you want to become the opposite sex, that's fine. I got no problem with it. But you can't compete against — males cannot compete against females.”
"If I was a true female — I can't believe I'm saying that — and I was competing in weightlifting and lost to this person, I would be beside myself.”
The New Zealand Olympic Committee (NZOC) on Sunday announced that Hubbard and four other weightlifters will be on New Zealand’s team, making her the first transgender athlete to compete in the Olympics.
NZOC added that Hubbard, 43, has met all of their eligibility requirements from the International Weightlifting Federation and the International Olympic Committee.
Hubbard has been eligible to compete in the Olympics since 2015 after IOC established new guidelines for openly transgender athletes.
Favre made headlines in April after the former football star said it was "hard to believe" that former Minneapolis Police officer Derek Chauvin meant to kill George Floyd, a 46-year-old Black man who died in police custody in 2020.
Floyd died after Chauvin kneeled on his neck during an arrest for over eight minutes, and his passing ignited protests over police brutality throughout the nation.
Chauvin was convicted of murder in April, 2021.
The 2020 Tokyo Olympics is set to begin on July 23 after debate about holding the event while the coronavirus continues to effect the globe.
Not merely “unfair”, but in the words of Spock, it is illogical.
A complete transgender change is fantasy. At best, “gender” can only change from either “male” (XY) or “female” (XX) to “neuter”, and to the degree that the change to neuter was made, it may be impossible to revert to the original configuration. But the progression to the opposite gender cannot be completed, regardless of hormone treatment or body mutilations.
Until the majority of women vote against the party that is pushing this, I don’t care.
“She” is not a woman. It’s pure cheating
If I was the other athletes i’d quit..
Boycott the Olympics! Turn off NBC! Make it a disaster for them!
You notice that no biological women ever claim to be men to compete in men’s sports against biological men?
Funny, that.
/sarc
Hopefully they get low ratings and it’s a disaster for them but I fear people may tune in to this for curiosity.
Like a freak show....
NBC is going to lose a ton of money on the Olympics as a result of the Committee allowing male trannys to compete as women.
NBC = Comcast = Domestic enemy
Women need to boycott their sport when this happens. You can’t win an event if there is no competition. I won’t watch the Olympics because of this. They let one “male’ in to compete against the women this time...next time it will be 20-30. Why have female sports?
Lovely how they bring in the George Floyd issue — just so everyone knows that it’s OK to ignore Brett Favre on any other issue (ex. transsexuals).
Brett Favre is correct.. I have to listen to his podcast.
I don’t care if someone decides to live as the opposite sex.
Whatever gets you through the day, it’s not my business.
This is simply a matter of fairness.
I detest cheaters, and this is cheating.
I thought any Olympics in Asia had low TV ratings in America because of the overnight time difference. So that would be a built-in excuse for this go-round.
The fact that females aren’t transitioning to males in order to participate in male sports should tell you something.
