Portland Runs Ad in NYT Promoting Tourism After Portland Police Riot Squad Quits

Portland ran a pricy full-page Sunday ad in the New York Times promoting tourism after the Portland police riot squad quit Thursday.

“Some of what you’ve heard about Portland is true. Some is not. What matters is that we’re true to ourselves,” Travel Portland wrote in the ad that could have cost up to $250,000.

“You’ve heard a lot about us lately. It’s been a while since you heard from us,” it continues.

“After a year of encouraging visitors and locals to support small businesses here and from a distance, it’s time to issue an invitation to come back to Portland,” the ad states. “Two sides to the same coin that keeps landing right on its edge. Anything can happen. We like it this way.”

“This is the kind of place where new ideas are welcome — whether they’re creative, cutting-edge or curious at first glance. You can speak up here. You can be yourself here.,” it continues.

The ad comes after Portland’s voluntary rapid response team of 50 resigned to protest charges against a police officer who allegedly hit an independent journalist in the Black Lives Matter riots that lit a federal building ablaze in August 2020.

The police union said nearly 200 rioters set upon the voluntary rapid response team and Officer Corey Budworth unintentionally hit the activist in the head with a baton, believing the activist was a part of the riot.

Activist Teri Jacobs “was not charged with any crime, and was awarded a $50,000 settlement by the City of Portland over the incident,” it was reported. “Jacobs says she was attacked despite carrying a press card.”

The Portland Police Bureau statement:

“Unfortunately, this decorated public servant has been caught in the crossfire of agenda-driven city leaders and a politicized criminal justice system,” they wrote.

We are Portland. Better than Mogadishu.

We are Portland. Come smell our nihilism.

We are Portland. The chaos boutique.

We are Portland. The city formerly known for roses.

“Can anyone familiar with the city talk about a reason to go there?”

I haven’t been to Portland for many, many years, I have no reason to visit Portland and I don’t plan on visiting again, but, to answer your question:

I used to think that Portland was quite beautiful, that is, as far as a city goes. It is green and lush and was vibrant. There is some lovely and interesting architecture and gorgeous parks. The Columbia River is amazing, and there are many waterfalls and hiking trails that are close by. Portland has Powells! The Children’s Museum was fantastic. The zoo was great and the massive rose gardens were nice to stroll through. People loved OMSI (Oregon Museum of Science and Industry). Downtown was pretty nice and quaint. People who lived in smaller towns in Oregon and Washington would visit Portland and take their kids to all these attractions.

This whole situation is sad because Portland is located in a beautiful area and it has great potential.

“...Officer Corey Budworth unintentionally hit the activist in the head with a baton, believing the activist was a part of the riot.”

An “activist” at a riot IS part of the riot.

We were doing a western driving swing and thought of doing the Colombia river valley but nixed it due to Portland.

It would appear that the whole state is like that. The coastline looks amazing.

Too bad the Left ruined everything. But that seems to be their thing.

Yes, from east to west, north to south, Oregon is one of the most gorgeous places on earth — a nature-lovers paradise. It really is worth visiting to see it all.

They are advertising to wokesters, antifa types, blm types. People who fantasize that communism works when it never has. Ever. You can force it in small counties for quite a while...but the large counties will not survive. No one who has lived in a commie country for a while will fight for it.

Having been through Portland in the 1980s...I would ask the question...is there anything really worth spending a 3-day weekend in Portland? I can’t think of a reason.

Now, if you said a week along the coast from Tillamock to Coos Bay...then I’d say you’d enjoy the whole week.

The real ad should be “Come to Portland, get beaten, robbed, car burned, threatened and continually harassed while you visit lovely burnt-out downtown”.

After the riots in ‘The People’s Republic of Madistan’ last summer, they finally opened the Farmer’s Market on the Capitol Square this past weekend.

It’s a terrific setting with the lawns all torn up and our Capitol building still boarded up! SIXTY businesses have closed and left State Street, which suffered the most damage from the unchecked week or so of rioting.

But, hey! “Anything can happen. We like it this way.”

Is there anything these dumb@ss Socialist Democrats do RIGHT when trying to run a city? Yeesh!
