What about August 6th, the day we dropped the atomic bomb to free the world from slavery and tyranny?
When does this nonsense stop?
And why did nearly all the Republicans vote for it?

I’m not seeing the relevance. That stopped a war and happened on foreign soil. I would not be in favor of a national holiday for VE day or VJ day either. It’s not the same thing as this at all.

Fear. Fear of being called racist or worse. Fear that if they actually stood for something they might have to back that belief up with actions. Fear of not being seen as a virtuous servant to the race mongers.

For the same reason all the large corporations, municipalities, and just above everyone else caves... they are afraid of being branded as racists.
The bullying tactics have accelerated tremendously since the death of George Floyd. If the current trajectory we are on is not altered, I predict within 5 years the July 4th holiday will be abolished. Juneteenth will be the new national Independence Day.

I propose a holiday to honor November 8th 2016, freedom from Hillary day.

David Duke Syndrome. They’re afraid of how they might be portrayed.

And why did nearly all the Republicans vote for it?Making Juneteenth a national holiday was a Trump campaign promise.
In the House, some Republicans objected to the title of the bill.
It was their right and it was right to do so.
In the Senate, things can be more streamlined.
"Unanimous consent" was proposed and nobody objected, so the bill was passed.

This is a great idea. But it should come with a guarantee that it ends anyone claiming victimhood ever again.
