Gov. Greg Abbott has signed Texas’ “constitutional carry” legislation, allowing Texans over age 21 to openly carry handguns in public without a license as of Sept. 1.

It's a given there is going to have to be some tweaks the next legislative session, just like there was with concealed carry and then LTC. Work in progress. The accompanying legislation as outlined in post #53 helps out in the meantime.

It also allows you to carry some places CC will not (school parking lots and more).

You could always carry a gun in your car in a school parking lot except under certain conditions. This includes the sidewalks, fields, and parking lots around the school. This means that an LTC holder can carry around the school, just not into the school building itself. However, if the high school dance team is practicing in the school parking lot, it is now prohibited, since a school-sponsored activity is taking place in the parking lot.

Wonderful news for Texas! Astonishing considering that up until 1995, Texas refused to even issue a concealed carry permit. Now it’s gone full constitutional carry!

Only with a LTC... you cannot do so with constitutional carry (CC).

Other places concealed LTC now allows now where CC doesn't:

A place with a 30.05 sign posted.

Within 1000 feet of a school building.

Premises, grounds, or buildings (including collegiate sporting events) of an institution of higher education on which a sponsored activity is taking place, or a passenger transportation vehicle of an institution of higher education where effective TPC 30.06 sign is not posted.

A nursing home or hospital with no effective 30.06/30.07 is posted.

Both. If you carry openly..it must be totally open in a holster. Concealed must be completely concealed. No part of the weapon visible.
