CNN) The Senate unanimously passed a resolution on Tuesday establishing June 19 as Juneteenth National Independence Day, a US holiday commemorating the end of slavery in the United States.
The legislation has gained momentum since the massive Black Lives Matter protests sparked by the police killing of George Floyd last year and the Democrats' takeover of the White House and Congress.

Texas was not the last state to free slaves.
Some kept them until December 1865.
End of slavery , the day every Democrat cried
feh...
What do they want next, Milk’s B Day?
They’re scared of blacks. Even Trump tried to bribe them. Nothing in return. Do we owe them? Be honest. Oh i get it. we’re doing it for ourselves. MLK Day came at the expense of one of the presidents.
Festivus for the rest of us.
No mention of the hypocrisy of the dems on this issue. As they were the ones who fought to the death to keep slavery going.
Yeah bending over for BLM terrorists will win you some black votes . Republicans are pathetic worms. If it HAS to be a holiday it should just be one for the state of Texas. Ask Joe what took Delaware so long.

National Fellate a Black Man Day.
It is a day of freedom. Worth celebrating.
Tell them we also want a day to recognize the victims of Communism.
But, but, but...I thought we could not have names for holidays...because some people might get their feelings hurt?
And besides, who gets holidays? Except federal and municipal employees? And teachers? Oh, yea...forgot about our elected OFF-icials?
MLK Day came at the expense of one of the presidents.
I have nothing against commemorating that day, but the term “Juneteenth” has always bothered me. It glorifies imprecision and the sloppy use of language.
its specific to Tx!!!!
