Convention of States: Ohio lawmakers calling for state to join movement for constitutional assembly

Two Ohio lawmakers plan to introduce a resolution this week calling for a convention of states to address the size of the federal government.

State Reps. Riordan McClain (R-Upper Sandusky) and Craig Riedel (R-Defiance) said they plan to introduce the resolution, which would create a convention that could discuss the topics of "limiting the power and jurisdiction of the federal government, term limits for Congress and other government officials, and fiscal restraints for the federal government."

"The size and scope of the federal government have long been unsustainable, and we have waited long enough for Congress to fix itself," McClain said.

Having 34 states — or two-thirds of the 50 states — call for a convention is one of two mechanisms to propose a constitutional amendment. The other is direct action from Congress.

Fifteen other states have passed a similar resolution. Georgia was the first state to pass a resolution to create a convention in March 2016. Since then, Alaska, Florida, Alabama, Tennessee, Indiana, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arizona, North Dakota, Texas, Missouri, Arkansas, Utah and Mississippi have passed a resolution, according to the organization Convention of States Action.

Nine other states — New Mexico, Iowa, South Dakota, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, West Virginia, Wisconsin and New Hampshire — have had the resolution pass at least one chamber of their legislatures.

"I support term limits for office members of the U.S. Senate and the U.S. House of Representatives because it holds public officials accountable throughout their political careers," Riedel said. "This resolution aims to increase the opportunity for competition for new members to bring diverse ideas and experiences to reviewing and amending federal laws while providing a necessary check on the current power of the Legislative Branch.”

The convention of states is a case of dumb and dumber once massive voter fraud it taken into consideration.

The last election was stolen in broad daylight with the RINO’s and Supreme Court literally looking the other way.

With a convention of states our Constitution can literally be stolen from us in broad daylight the same way. This way the left can profess the diminished Bill of Rights was legally done, the Supreme Court will go along with it, and we are all screwed.

This is just stupid!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes 2.5 million unelected bureaucrats removing our God given rights ever which way.

One way to downsize DC is for Texas to become a free and independent nation void of them and the 49 bitches. Support Texas independence. Join and volunteer at TNM.ME

I agree. The people who”ll run this Constitutional Convention won’t be nearly as smart as the people who wrote the first one. Whoever thinks that we”ll come out with a new and improved Constitution should think again.

I am asking this with all due respect: what is the alternative, given the current state of DC?

My father’s grandfather was born in the Republic of Texas.

I’m not yet ready for Secession, if Texas did break away, it would not be alone. At least 1/3 of the states would follow.

Leave it alone. Our side can’t stop anything that the swamp is doing right now. This silly convention talk makes the left extremely happy as they control all voting and systems. The outcomes always benefit the statist it seems.

>>This is just stupid!<<
The way I see it...what’s the alternatives?

Do nothing and continue to let the swamp operate in D.C. with impunity and further this monumental fiscal mismanagement that will eventually lead to an economic crash.

We attempt a convention of the states to pull back the reigns of the federals...risking it going South and having a negative impact on the Bill of Rights.

Civil war if either of the first two alternatives destroy liberty and freedom.

Any other alternatives folks? Am I missing something?

The relentless expansion of government has made it overbearing, unresponsive and detrimental to our liberties.

Fedzilla will fight this movement with everything it has. Its probably too late to put the behemoth back into its cage.

I will never forgive Republicants for that very reason. Their cowardice was reprehensible and should never be forgotten.

The left is terrified of the COS. In 4 States they made the state pull back. Only 2 RAT Senators are between the RAT party and permanent one party rule. Those two are maintaining the Filabuster. The Republic hangs by the thread of these two flaky RATs. At this point we have nothing left to lose.

Nobody is seceding. The only people who think secession is possible in 2021 are people who don’t have any earthly idea how our monetary system works. When Congress created the Federal Reserve in 1913, that forever bound the states, whether they wanted it or not.

This effort is all good and fine but its not going to accomplish much of anything. The Swamp is incorriagable and has demonstrated time and time again its enormous staying power. Trust me, they are firmly committed to the proposition of defending themselves and will find a way to derail any attempts to downsize their empire.

Reformation is not the answer IMO as we have deep ideological differences, societal schisms and regional dichotomies that some well intentioned efforts are not going to soon resolve. In the meantime the downward spiral continues.

We need to distance ourselves from the Swamp or get caught up in its quicksand. A constitutional convention is just seeking to repair the old. We need new, innovative ways to protect our values, principles and liberties.

The last election shows just how far down the road to serfdom we really are. Its time to recognize what we need to do to perpetuate and preserve the founding principles that made us a great and respected country.

In too many instances “our side” doesn’t really want to stop what the Swamp is doing. Our side is often not on our side. Just sayin.

Let’s see. We give to Canada all states east of the Hudson. We get the western provinces. This is done by calling for an independent Quebec. Heh heh.

Agree. I don’t see much in the way of a unified block and/or constructive actions coming out of a convention like this. More likely it will devolve into internecine squabbling and dissention.

It would be easier for individual states to effectively make themselves sanctuary states and distance themselves from the reach of an overbearing central government. The liberals initiated the sanctuary concept; they set the precedent for us. Now we can apply the same thing to our own unique needs.
