A police officer in Aurora, Colorado, issued a department-wide email recently announcing his retirement and offering his assessment of the climate surrounding law enforcement.
“I am leaving Colorado for palm trees and less communism,” wrote Daniel Bertelson, a 16-year veteran of the Aurora Police Department .
“Try to ignore the politicians and media,” he urged his colleagues. “They know nothing of this profession or honor; they’re self-serving con artists, well-dressed pimps and prostitutes at best.”
President Biden recently blamed law enforcement officers for fueling “distrust” among minority communities in a proclamation declaring Peace Officers Memorial Day .
“Biden’s statement shows how committed his administration is in raising the cause of the Black Lives Matter movement in every aspect of government, even while honoring law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty,” he said.
According to CBS Denver, the number of police officers leaving APD has risen in recent years, growing to over 60 percent from 2019 to 2020.
“That comes as the city is also seeing rising crime rates, a trend seen in other Colorado cities and across the country,” the report stated.
In March, Aurora overtook Colorado Springs as the second most violent city in the state.
Pueblo is still the state’s most violent city per capita, but Denver and Aurora produce the lion’s share of violent crime in Colorado .
Bertelson added he was honored to have served as an APD officer and thanked those with the department for their advice, kind words, and friendship.
“As the war against police rages on in an environment where you can literally do no right, I pray for the safety, success and happiness of each of you,” he noted.
Bertelson is assigned to the investigative support section and will officially exit the department on June 1 .

Aaa, hello what. Denver and Boulder are the most liberal cities in Co. Colorado Springs is one of the most conservative cities in Colorado.
———
True. My favorite gun shop (DCF Guns) is located in Castle Rock, near Colorado Springs. Colorado Springs is definitely not liberal (unless the USAF is suddenly)
Well Biden is importing criminals at the same time laming the police.
The Chinese have got to be very proud of all this.

On one hand I can’t blame the people that would fall back from a crumbling position, on the other the enemy is going to occupy and entrench your old position before making the push towards where you fell back to, either leaving you to fall back again, and start the cycle all over again. I could ramble for hours, but I think I may have said what I wanted to say with the requisite brevity and clarity.
Wrong. CO Springs is a conservative are. Denver and Boulder are the most liberal cities in the state with Pueblo earning an honorable mention.

“stay and fight, or bravely run away?”
Two ways to look at it, I think.
Stay and fight as the patriots did in the 1700s.
OR
Relocate to a free state, which slowly continues the quiet effort of self-secession. Hopefully, the Marxists will do the same and migrate to states with like-minded people. If that happens over the next five years none of us will have to live and work near the enemy.
Either one will do.
Pueblo County was actually won by Trump in 2016, as the first GOP Presidential nominee to win since Nixon in 1972, and was lost by him only slightly in 2020. (My guess is that Trump actually won the county last year, but was cheated out of it by Democrats at the courthouse and state level). It is a blue collar, heavily Hispanic county. Hardly the home of latte sipping yuppies.
Thanks. I’ve always been torn about Pueblo. It seems to vote Dem, unions I suppose, but it doesn’t seem like a liberal area. Is the steel mill doing anything these days?
How about starting by not ticketing people based on a revenue goal.
Or by not lying 24/7/375 together with every single one of your colleagues in order to kick the can of corruption further down the road.
Or justifying everything you do based on a desire to stay just under the radar until you get to “pension time”.
You have an interesting point of view. The Blue State 'rust belt' has been steadily losing population for years, as folks get tired of the left-wing politics, and move to less toxic environments in Red States. As the population shifts, the representation goes with it: States like Texas & Florida pick up congressional seats, while New York, Michigan & California lose them. Sounds like you might prefer it if conservatives stayed to 'fight' in third world sh!tholes like NY City & LA (and by staying, kept the congressional seats in D@mocrat hands, as well). Or at least, you seem to be suggesting that conservatives conceal their reasons for leaving, rather than "virtue signal" (as you describe it) by stating the simple facts regarding their departures. Either way, it's (obviously ;^) your prerogative.....
Nope! Sorry we’re full!
Can’t fight this ON the force...you will be set up and do time. Vote with yoIf you’re outnumbered, bid a tactical retreat.
The Constitution enforces. ...
The Constitution enforce social democracy the same party of WWII Germany. The supreme court can not rule on election violations let alone conservative causes.
“Liberals stay embedded in all major institutions, even if it’s a little hard. If he wants to leave that’s his prerogative, it’s just odd when people make a big virtue signal out of it.”
A little hard? It is dangerous to begin with. When you try and do your job like a professional, you are undercut by the city you work for and you can be fired, jailed and sued out of everything you own. What is your job like?
it’s a no win war. Until the media and political administration change policies, you will have your every move questioned and every choice examined. That is a toxic environment where you have no support from anyone. I do question his announcing this before he officially retires. Now he may be targeted (even more).
Smart,,,,,, NYC cop is open to 20 years in prison if he uses normal police procedures during an arrest if the culprit resists. The officer is open to automatic prison time doing his job.
So good to see the cops leaving these Democrat cities in the midst of a rising crime rate.
